Australian Snow Information - snow - ski.com.au ) for possible employment in the ski fields in Australia. You might find work in Jindabyne too, which is the town near Perisher.
And Cairns is really great for backpackers/travellers, there's always something to do and some sort of work somewhere. Lots of cheap accom too.
