I've been twice and we had a great time. The first time we went we did a weeks diving in Sharm and then spent some time in Cairo and Luxor. We saw the pyramids and went to the Egyptian museum as well as seeing lots of temples. The second time we went to Hurghada on the Red Sea to go diving again. The diving is amazing and we are thinking of going back again in October to do some more diving.
The Red Sea is great and the diving is amazing there. The snorkelling is pretty good too. Its really hot in the summer. We went in June the first time and it was over 40 degrees every day. It was fine when we were diving but was uncomfortably hot when we were walking round the pyramids etc. The second time was at the end of Sept and it was around 30 degrees so still lovely and warm but much more comfortable. I would not go in June/July/August as it gets really hot and we spoke to some of the dive guides who said it can hit the high forties and occasionally even 50 degrees.
All the hotels we stayed in were very nice and clean. I would take some anti bac wipes to use before you eat and after the handing the money which can be very dirty. If you want to buy anything in the shops then be prepared to get a bit of hassle when you are walking around and you have to haggle over the prices.
