Well, I have been to both York and Edinburgh and I loved them both. IN Edinburgh we stayed in a hotel found through
www.laterooms.co.uk and in York, we went self-catering.
York is totally fantastic. It is compact enough to be able to walk all round it and there is lots to see and do. It also has some lovely tea rooms and restaurants as well as a castle and medieval stone walls! Soooo romantic.
Edinburgh was also great, but much bigger and with things more spread out. However, high points were the castle and royal mile and eating out in Indigo Yard (v.trendy restaurant).
Both places are great, but Edinburgh was colder! Hehe.
Hope you settle on somewhere eventually. Jamie and I are thinking of taking a week in October and can't decide where to go. If people are recommending Bath, may well give that a try.
Cheers
