Anyone want to start a plan with me?
Hi!
Half my problem is needing encouragement! I've never had to or wanted to lose weight before but now my clothes are tight and i ordered a perfect fit dress a few months ago, I want to get rid of my flab and get healthy.
We could follow an exercise regime too ...
Anyone in?

I'll join you! The Friday weigh in is a good idea, gives you a bit of motivation, and it's helpful if you've actually put on weight to have people to encourage you to carry on.

Hi!
Yay! glad you're all up for it.
I'd like to cut down on junky snacks etc. and eat more healthily since I reckon it will help my hair and skin as well as attacking the flab.
I'd also like to exercise a few times a week. I like aerobics, tennis and will probably invest in some hand weights so I can tone up at home.
So, if you're all with me on this, any suggestions as to how we can make it a group thing.
I think it would be great if we all start together and kick each other's backsides when we slack.
The friday weigh-in is a great idea too. Also I'm going to keep an item of clothing I want to fit into and will measure my results on this.
Any ideas?

maybe just incorporate it all into the Friday weigh-in? If you give yourself certain targets (eg exercising 3 times a week) you can mention these at the same time- the very fact that you have to admit to a bunch of people what you've been doing is good motivation in itself. it's also helpful to swop tips on what's working and what's not. and anwyay, if all everyone puts down is the weight that they've lost, can get a bit dull!
I gave up sweets, chocolates, cakes, crisps and biscuits for lent, and by the end of it wasn't actually missing any of them at all, so have decided to carry it on. I'm trying to think of a way to allow myself the odd treat eg every Friday i am allowed one of my "forbidden" items. I'm not that bothered at the moment, once you've told yourself you're not having certain foods it's really easy to "plug" the gaps with healthier alternatives, eg I've been having dried fruit (which i love), cereal bars and, as a treat, a low fat flap jack (doesn't count as a cake in my book!!).
The other tip is to drink loads of water, apparently drinking 1.5-2 litres a day helps you to burn off 5% more calories for some reason...

Hi!
Okay. How about we exercise at least 3 times a week and go with the weigh in.
Shall we weigh in tomorrow as a base?
And then meet again a week tomorrow to confirm we've done our exercise, how our old clothes are fitting and confess our sins.
What do you think?

I think so....though i get the impression its good to do a load of exercises.
So you have to do at least 6 lots of 30 mins then.
I decided not to buy scales in the end because it will make me go to the gym on a thursday night - which means i might as well go to aerobics.
are exercise vids any good?

I'm going to join in too! I don't need to lose weight but I need to exercise sooo badly. I eat fairly healthy, but even walking fast I get out of breath! :P When I went home for Easter I brought an exercise video back with me and did it once on Monday (though I ended up skipping the low impact aerobics part because it was too complicated, I'm only going to do the weights part) and yesterday (even though I was still sore from Monday!), and on Tuesday I had a highland dance lesson, so that's exercise three days in a row now! I'm going to see if I can keep it up!
For whoever asked about exercise videos...some are bad, some are good. You have to try different ones to see what's best for you. It could be a waste of money to buy a lot you're not going to use, I would ask around and see if anyone has any! I'm sure most people do, and I'm sure most people haven't used them more than a few times so they'd be happy to give or loan them to you If you find a good one they can be very helpful because they force you to do a certain amount, give encouragement, and remind you about form (the lady in the one I have keeps telling me to put my shoulders back or keep my knees from locking, the sort of thing I never remember in the white hot torture of exercise )

Hi Skelash,
Glad you've joined us. We'll all check in next friday. Though it sounds like you've been quite busy already!
I went to body sculpt last night and boy, don't I know it this morning!! THE PAIN!!
And I walked to the gym and back! Normally I take the car..
Yesterday I bought some strap on weights so I'm going to start wearing these around the house and whenever I get chance. I also bought a skipping rope, but don't know where i'm going to do it cos the garden's not that big!!
ooh and I bought a foot pump to sort out my moutain bike. I bought ben a boke for Xmas so it would be cool to do it together!
Cupid - did you get on your bike?
I'm feeling much healthier today alread!! Anyone else?

On the video front - my local library rents them out so yours may too. Then you could find one thats suits you and go out and buy it rather than wasting your hard-earned pennies buying one after the other.
And I WILL go back to aerobics and Step on Tuesdays. My Sunday aerobics class can wait a bit as Bob is only around a couple of weekends this month, unless he is doing my head in of course!

Mella
where did you get your strap on weights?? and how much were they?
I need to tone up my arms and legs, but cos my arthritis I find it hard to grip the weights, these sound purfect.
Thanks!!

Niddy,
Most sports shops seem to have them - I got my sister some from First Sport but I've also seen them in Argos.
