I think so. I thought gyms cost about a £ a day. I go swimming though and it costs £2.90 a time, but we only go twice a week.

I think so - my gym is £49 peak and that's central London. However we don't have any classes and am desperate for a bit of variety! Where is your old gym?

Honestly, I go there and I couldn't give a toss what anybody looks like and neither do other people. if you're like me you plug into the machines and watch Coronation Street and take no notice of anyone else around, and definitely nobody bothers me.

As an aside one of my girlfriends was very concsious of going swimming as she is now 8 months pregnant, but again nobody particularly stares. Possibly it is advisable though to go to the lane swimming where people are there to exercsie seriouslyu rather than when all the kids are there.

I go to the one at the Hilton in Bracknell. they were fine with me and there were some bigger ladies that went - you tend to keep yourself to yourself

There is a pool there too and a sauna!!

woo!

seems quite steep to me. That's comparable with places here in the City and they're a rip off!

I joined our local one in Kingston. It costs £40 per month and I can use it for anything anytime. Its recently been done up so its very cool.

But if you like and can afford it, go for it gal!

Ps why did you leave it last time?

I actually work at a gym part time...
I only work behind reception, but since working there a few hrs a week, I have been more times than when I was a member and paying 40.00 a month!

It makes me more determined and the fitness staff have been great at helping me with a plan to lose weight and tone up -my diet willpower is virtually zilch at the moment as I am stressed about finding a job, but the exercise helps! (we''ll see at the weigh in on friday!)

I would say that the prices quoted seem very reasonable - if you compared them to the likes of David Lloyd clubs, which are megabucks!

Don't worry about being big, I felt a bit intimidated at first, but I always manage to spot someone who is twice the size of me and that always makes me feel less intimidated - imagine how they must feel!

One Last thing ..... GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have nothing to lose but weight!

I am going to have a look around a ladies only gym today, the membership is £16 off peak. This is great for me as they have a creche for my 2 year old daughter to use while i am exercising. The only extras you have to pay for is the tanning booths. So hopefully it will be great and i can get exercising. My H2B knows how much i want to lose weight and how embrassed i was about even going into a gym he went and found this gym for me! He also bought me a new pair of trainers......mind you i didn't know whether he was just being sweet or not!

Emma re the swimming thing....have you asked if your local pool has a 'Ladies only' night? Mine do, it's on a Thursday between 7-9pm and its good as there are no men and they even have female lifeguards...I am big but I tell you I did feel slim against some of the other ladies there! So it's worth asking. It improved my confidence no end not to mention the excercise!
