For Mella - pain in the neck!!!!!
Hey Mella,
Is Body Scult the same as Body Pump? Lifting large weights on a 'barbell' or 'dumbell' and feeling like a real hero??? I LOVE that class!! I try to do it three times a week if I can.
Anyway - neck pain, according to my instructor, is caused by 'bad technique' (everything is always my fault!). Keep your back flat on the floor, your hands by your ears and your eyes firmly fixed on the ceiling. Never tilt your chin forward - always stay flat.
You probably do like I did and tuck your chin into your chest a bit on the way up. If you focus on the ceiling and concentrate on keeping your neck straight it won;t hurt as much - and you'll really feel it in your stomach. Also, if you keep the small of your back on the floor (which is difficult if you're like me and have a big arse!) you can feel it working your abs harder!
I knew all this training would come in handy eventually!!!
HTH,
Nikki

I thought you were implying I was a pain in the neck for a second. I was all ready to say "okay - eat what you like and never exercise"
But thanks for the advice. I do keep my chin flat to my chest and look at my belly rather than the ceiling. I'll try doing it how you said. Though I'm sure the reason I'm doing it is because I'm not strong enough in the ab area to lift myself up so I try dragging myself up by my hair!! hehe
Body sculp is the same by the sound of it. We use hand weights, and the big bar weight thingy and a step.
I went last night - it was fab! But still hurt my neck which meant I just lazed for a while.
Oh - and you're not the only one who hasn't lost weight this week. I've done tons of exercise and cut out junk food etc, but I'm the same weight.
Okay Mella - for stomach exercises you have to imagine you have an orange between your chin and chest and keep that distance at all times.
If you do stomach crunches on a mat, instead of putting your hands behind your head you should hold of the corners of the mat and as you lift, bring the mat with you as this supports your neck yet doesn't allow you to cheat if you are exercising properly. (NB. Make sure your whole head is on the mat and supported on the way up - slide down a bit if necessary)
I suffer from a bad neck and these are the tips my instructor gave me and they really do work.
Your body does need a day off inbetween exercise types so if you do aerobics Monday, do something totally different Tuesday (e.g. swimming, cycling, walking) and then you can do aerobics again on Wednesday if you feel up to it.
Keep up the good work girls - now I'm working again I'll be able to pay for my classes once more and keep up with you- woo hoo! I'm gonna ask Bob to get me a bike for my birthday I think but that's not until October unfortunately so I'll miss out this summer (unless I get rich in the meantime!!).

I hope that my child, looking back on today
Will remember a mother who had time to play;
Because children grow up while you're not looking,
There are years ahead for cleaning and cooking.
So, quiet now cobwebs go to sleep.
I'm nursing my baby, and babies don't keep.

Hi Mella,
i had tuna for my lunch too despite my need to binge!!! When I lose weight I find dieting easier - as soon as I gain I feel so sad that I want to pig out!
So I'll keep up with you - and I'll go to BodyPump tomorrow morning instead of lazing about! Think of me at 10.15am as I hoist my weights onto my shoulders for the warm up.........
......And if I'm very brave, I might do the Combat class after it like I did on Monday - determined to lose weight this week!!!
Hugs n stuff,
Nikki xxxx
PS: Body shape is SURE to change with BodyPump / Sculpt - it changes your life!!! When I was really fit a few months ago I did it loads and I had biceps, tight 'chicken wings' and proper buttocks instead of a saggy arse! Just hope I can get it back.....

Its the chicken wings I want to get rid of, how long did it take you to get rid?
I'm not sure, but today i noticed my upper thighs are stronger. Maybe its starting to work.
I've been twice to body sculpt this week and to another very similar class called body conditioning. so it ought to start kicking in. I have less than 12 weeks to go though......

Helloooooooo...... aching from BodyPump, just thought I'd let you all know!
Mella - it takes about two months for things to really firm up but you can see the difference really quickly cos it's so intensive! The only thing it's never helped me with enough is my floppy belly - but I've been so fat so many times now that I think it's done for!!

Evil but effective Cupid my love!!!! And you feel like a well-'ard mother hefting weights about - there's definite satisfaction in it!!
Combat is fab!!!! A series of kicks, punches and skips to music - very fast and furious but a major stress buster!! Just visualise your greatest enemy in front of you.......
Mella - I don't do circuits cos at my place the only classes are really high-intensity big bloke ones. I did it once at my fittest, and nearly had a heart attack!!!
Any ideas for me this week? No car so can't get to the gym easily. Am walking to work and back (30 mins each way) but this doesn't feel like exercise to me. Might dso some sit ups, press ups etc later but what else can I do??? I'm on a roll. I've also put another pound on since yesterday despite behaving beautifully! Maybe I won't get on the scales again til Friday......
Can we keep this up, ladies?? It's inspiring me to work out!!
Love n hugs,
Nikki xxx
