I havent posted here in a while been a very busy lady but just wanting some opinions on a few ideas i have.
as some of you know i work self employed as a personal trainer. i currently do it in a gym although i would like to branch out to home visits etc. and one area which i think has massive potential is the wedding/bridal market, ie. wedding fitness.
Looking back on preparing for your own wedding, would you pay for a personal trainer to get you in shape for your big day? Would you take out a package in the weeks leading up to the wedding, or a one off programme? would you prefer to go to a gym, or the local park, or the comfort of your own home? would you need a nutrition plan to go with that? bearing in mind that these days some couples include gym membership/personal training in the wedding budget, how much money would you be prepared to lay aside for such a service? with regard to beauty and pampering. Would you think it was convenient that the personal trainer was also qualified in beauty and body therapy and could provide you with all your beauty/pampering needs leading up to the big day, including skincare, relaxation, massage, hen weekend pampering, and all the beauty requirements on the day?
Sorry for all the questions folks, im just trying to get a bit of feedback. im thinking about going back to college to do a beauty therapy course and basically furthering my personal training business by setting up a bridal/wedding fitness and beauty service, either mobile or maybe at a salon and i just want some feedback from brides themselves.
Hope everyones well..been reading a few of the posts in this forum and it looks like you are all doing well..keep up the hard work!! xxx
Good to hear from you. I can't be of much help regarding the health/fitness thing as I just couldn't keep the weight on in the run up to the wedding and eat very healthily most of the time.
However, I did treat myself to 3 body wraps, eyebrow tint and wax, eyelash tint, 2 make up trials, 2 hair trials, acrylic nails and hair and make up on the day. My Mum also had a massage, manicure, make up and hair.
I prefer things in the comfort of my own home too, so really think it would be a fantastic idea if you also trained in beauty and offered a home service. I honestly think there is the market out there for this, especially if you offer packages for the fitness and beauty combined where people can get a bit of discount or tailor make their own packages.
Nope i probably wouldn't. It'd seem like an unecessary expense among many other expenses that you can't avoid when planning a wedding. I think there woudl be folk that went for it but they would probably be the sort that would already have a trainer and be pretty fit anyway.
To be honest I just can't see many people wanting personal training just for that one day. Those that would will probably already attend a gym with the personal trainer option.
I'm trying to find the right way to word this without it coming across the wrong way and I'm struggling.
I think when we decide to marry the person we are marrying loves us for us, lumpy bumpy bits and all. Many people diet for a wedding but I think going for personal training or strict exercise regime as well to get a nice toned look for the day can cause extra stress at what's already a stressful time. I'm all for looking good on the day but I think you can do that without having to do something you wouldn't normally.
For people that go to a gym and exercise regularly there probably is a market for what you want to do and by including a beauty package with the fitness side of things it would mean you offer that bit extra to the gym and so probably would work. But as has been said the majority of potential customers probably already attend a gym. I think you'd have to do a lot of advertising and grab people before they commit financially to a gym.
The beauty side of things I'd be as happy having that done at home or a salon. As long as you're good at it!! There's nothing worse than someone giving you a crap makeover when you have to walk home I had one and was asked was I ill
Good luck with whatever you decide to do

Vodka - cheaper than botox and paralyses more muscles
Ang and Rach very good points and i suppose i didnt really word it properly but it would be more directed at people who already are interested in fitness and do some form of exercise. Also my programmes would teach people how to maintain a healthy lifestyle, exercise and diet after they get married too. thanks for the feedback although i do know there are a lot of people on here who use gyms, or do some form of exercise, or at least used to before they had babies etc..would like to hear from them too??
Hi Megan,
I agree with whats been said already I'm afraid, weddings are so expensive these days that I think very few people would put money towards training, if they are already into fitness they may just attend the gym more frequently.
Have you thought of trying the post-baby bods instead? Once baby is a maybe 6-9 months old and you know how your finances are affected you also know that some of the weight is not going to budge!!
Good to hear from you. Again, I wouldn't have done the personal trainer thing..although before I got married I was a member of the gym...and awent several times a week, and I did get the advice of the gym instructor about losing a few extra pounds for the big day. Hopefully this doesn't mean that all people who are interested in fitness would do this! ( I am a real cheapskate!!!) The thing that is really popular near me is postnatal fitness, where you can take the baby too. I have being trying for weeks to attend the Mums and Babies fitness class at teh local sports centre, but can't get a place in the class. There is also a class where you can go with you baby in a buggy and all the Mums do exercise in teh local park, actually using the buggy. it is called B u g g y fit...not sure if it is something you do already, but it is very popular,
Take care,
Jill

Actually, I think that if you did have the budget for a personal trainer, you'd also have the budget for pampering! So I think it would be a good sideline, although I suspect your personal training would still be your main source of income. Were I the sort of person who had a personal trainer (my SIL is one so I know I can't afford the money, effort or time but a lot of other people can - she's booked solid!) I would find it very useful to know that she was also able to do any form of beauty therapy, wedding or not. Most people in that income / time bracket have the money for pampering too!
A Bridal Build Up package is a great gimmick and people would probably take it up - you know, like a three month regime or something, you'd be able to work out a package and price, I'm sure - but also, your standard non-bridal fitness / beauty people would be interested in maintaining their health and beauty routines with one person. it's good to be versatile - I say go for it!
