Default Embossing problems

I've been experimenting with embossing and it's just not going my way!

Having invested in a heat gun I thought it would all be easy... But I was wrong.

Can anyone please tell me how to emboss well? I'm embossing parchment paper, if that makes any difference. You'd make a very frustrated B2B very happy!

I found the best way was an electric hotplate as it took a bit more effort for me to set the thing alight. Also make sure theres plenty of the embosser on the paper

Make sure you add the embossing powder to your design quickly so that the ink doesn't have time to dry out. Then leave it for a few seconds and shake off. I always blow on it gently too to get rid of any excess powder.
Don't hold the heat gun too close to it and don't leave it on for too long... I have ended up burning a lot of stuff by leaving the heat on it for too long

What is wrong with it? What does it look like when you do it?

Thanks for the advice.

Ooops... After I read your replies H2B watched me doing it, then read the instructions - turns out because I hadn't read them I was holding the gun too close... Scorching the paper and blasting the powder away!!

I think next time I'll try not to be too eager to get going! It looks really good now - it works!!

Sorry that I am late with this Claire. I am glad that you have got it sorted out now. I seem to remember taking a long time to work out how to get it to melty evenly, and as I was using an iron, I realised it would be a good idea to switch the steam bit off.

My most enduring memory of it though is that however hard I tried to contain it, there was grey dust EVERYWHERE
