Default Card Making....

Just wondering if anyone makes their own cards on here ?

I wanted a hobby to do so thought id have a go of card making. Ive just started doing it this week and am really enjoying it . I wonder why I never thought of giving it a go before now ! however on a negative note ive spent an absolute fortune in buying all the stuff needed to make the things !the people on Ebay must love me at the mo , ive managed to get around simon by saying it will save us money in the long run as the amount of £££ you spend on b/day,anniv,wedding,births,xmas cards etc cost a fortune over the year & im getting the chance to do something which I think im gonna enjoy.

heres my 1st 3 efforts , what do you think

ps- if anyone else does this post some piccies to give me inspiration !

love
claire

They're fab Claire! Very impressive!!!

I make all of mine now. It does cost a bit at the start (I now have two toolkit boxes full of card making stuff and could really do with another one) but I really enjoy it. I've started to experiment with different types of paper and textures etc.

Off to find some pix......

It's Mulberry paper.. and yeah with the right tools I think you can get the edges to look rough.....

I've got some vellum but I've not used it yet.......

Must get my mum's card made.. think I'll do it on Wednesday night whilst I can't sleep waiting for Matt to come home!

here's some of mine.

One is the Valentine's card I made for Niall this year (the centre part looks as if it is raised but actually it's sunken), one is my mother's day card and the other is quite obviously not a card at all but a candle that I have embossed onto. I use embossing a lot with card making though.

Can second H's recommendation of Mad About Cards and Craftadelic. I used them both at Christmas time. Mad about Cards is my absolute fave too.

The candle is done with a stamp (in fact it was the design i used in our wedding invites). I stamped in gold onto tissue paper then scattered gold powder onto it, melted the powder, cut carefully around it then melted into the candle.

It actually doesn't look as good in reality as the surface of the candle is no longer smooth and the white is showing through the ivory but it was a 1st try!

Embossing is the best!

Ta. The mother's day card is tissue paper and the Valentines card? Erm, I think the circle may be mulberry paper, the hearts are just handmade paper of some sort. I have all sorts of different papers though, I seem to buy a different variety pack whenever I am in a craft shop.

Embossing is where you stamp a design out with pigment ink, cover it with embossing powder and heat it so it melts and forms a raised design. It looks really effective but is quite expensive as the stamps are extortionate. I bought a proper tool to heat it as well which is about £20 though i did try using the toaster etc at the start! (not too safe so not to be recommended!)
