I wanted a really plain acrylic one & took me months of googling to find exactly what I wanted. It was a acrylic display stand manufacturer (& there are 1000s of these!) I can't find the blooming link though now
I know Lakeland used to do a smallish silver one but I can't find it on their site.

www.cupcaketree.com is where you can order them but i think they are only cardboard ones. They have lots of ideas on how to decorate them on the site, i think they have some there were you can't see the actually tree.
Metallic spray should work wonders if its the wrong colour. If u dress it up enough u shouldnt be able to see the plates anyway.
The one from cupcaketree.com is cardboard...Im sure u could make one if u desired.
After all this browsing of cupcakes..I think I have found my wedding cake!..........................next, the dress!

We are having a cupcake cake as well. We had trouble finding the kind of cupcake stand that we wanted but heard that you can go to a hardware/lumber yard and they can cut out the pieces for the stand for you in any shape you want for cheap. I wanted a square one and they made a 4 tier stand with square pieces of wood for less than $20. We put it together with the wooden "leg poles" they made and it is fantastic! I took it home and sanded the edges and stained it in a nice mahogeny finish. It looks priceless not to mention was very affordable. My friend is having a heart shape cut for hers. Just a suggestion in case you can't find what you're looking for!
Also, on the topic of cupcake cakes. I found the cutest idea for cupcakes. Instead of having a baker make fancy cupcakes, you have a local supermarket bakery make your cupcakes with just your color of frosting on it. You can pick up pre-made frosting flowers and add them yourself or (what I plan to do) is go to a craft store and pick up some cute things to add to them. I found some cute bumblebees and butterflies on wires for really affordable. I am going to use a variety of the flowers (fresh or frosting) with the bees and butterflies. My sister-in law said she could pick up the cupcakes from the store the evening before the wedding and add the decorations in a matter of minutes. SUPER cheap and easy to do. Not to mention adorable!!!
