Default Crafty present for a friend?

We are going to a friends birthday party this Friday and I need to get her a present. She says she is into making/crafty things so I thought a little cross stitch set may be nice?

It is only a token present of around £10, does anyone have any other ideas on what I can get? Or if I can even get a little cross stitch set for a tenner? I live in a village which is a bit of a trekk (sp?) to the shops but we do have a H obbycraft about 15 miles away.

Thanks
x

Hobbycraft have some lovely kits for all sorts of crafts. It might be worth the trek to get something you are happy with. Otherwise i believe that argos and m&s have some cross stitch kits available this year.

Oooh, Thanks. I just found this on the A rgos website, so if all else fails I'll buy it 'cos it's closer and also give a nice bottle of wine. What do you think?

Winnie the Pooh is very popular with people who like to cross stitch so i would say it would be great.

Alternatively almost everywhere seems to have knitting kits at the moment, if she knits. I was very tempted to knit myself a pair of slippers from a kit in The Works the other day, but I have knitting projects coming out of my ears at the moment, so managed to resist.

I bought a knitting kit the other day from Chiltern Mills. It's a lovely feathery wool scarf. The only problem is the needles are too short and when I went to dig my nannas old proper sized needles out it seems they've gone and nowhere in the village sells them anymore so I can't knit it until I've been into town

I bought my last pair of knitting needles off ebay. It was much eaiser than a trip to hobby craft for me and they came really quickly. Cheap too

Having cut open the end of my finger on one of my knitting machine needles, I look back fondly on the days when you could merely impale yourself on a knitting needle.....

I could do with buying a few pairs actually, as I rarely seem to have the right length in the size I need, even though I have three drawers full of needles. I "inherited" them from my Nan (I was going to have them when she died, but seeing as she doesn't knit anymore I got them before) but it is largely filled with thin sock needles.

I had a full set from my Nanna Nicola all in a box that stated they were made by the blind and all in the old sizes too which I understood! And they were all metal too which I prefer knitting with. We used to have two wool shops in the village when my kids were small so I knit loads in those days but now those shops are gone and so I've not knit for years.

Sara I never thought of Ebay! Thanks will go find some there
