Question Stones/Pebbles as Name Place

Deja-vu??? Well yes, posted this before, but with all those newbies out there I thought I might get some more great ideas and input...

Quote:
I love this idea (and have seen many mags with examples of this). But the problem is I've no idea the best way of applying the names to the stones. Do I varnish them first? Which media should I use (paint, marker pen)???

Please help with suggestions (especially if you did this).

Thanks a lot!
Jen

Jonathan tried out silver pens (what a sweetie) and all sorts. I used a black marker and the ink run pretty bad......any comments groovers?

Thanks again,

I was thinking pain too - you could glue beads onto it with supergule to make the persons name - or even better, glue shells (they'd have to be small though).

Or, glue shells onto a blue background to spell names?

Erm what else.. I'll have a think!

you could try edging paint (outliner) that is used in glass painting

it comes in tubes with a thin nozzle so should be easy to write with and if it sticks to glass i would think it will stick to a pebble

your local craft shop will sell it or there are these guys on the web
http://www.glasspaintingmaterials.co.uk/index.html

no promising it would work but it might be worth a try

Ok, got no ideas here, but am watching this thread with interest, as I have a thing for pebbles/stones. When we were on honeymoon in Devon I found some lovely little pebbles and stones, and I want to write the date our names and the date of the wedding on the big one, which will be used as a doorstop and the little ones are lovely and shiny and smooth and I want to write the date of the honeymoon and where we went on them. So I shall be watching this one with interest!

H2b's brother got married in NZ last year and the reception was in this beautiful vineyard.

The middle of the table settings were tree-trunks they had chopped and sanded themselves, with tea-lights pushed into them and the place settings were dark slate grey stones with our names written on them in Gold Pen.

Sooo simple, but sooo effective. Everyone loved them. We still have them and they look fab (apart from the fact that J's is covered in red wine!)

I say go for it - not that expensive, but looks great!

Default Stones

I've seen this done in a magazine and on looking closely it looked like they used (not sure what you call it, but it used to be called..) Letraset.

You know, that film stuff that has letters on them, and you rub them off using a grey lead pencil and they rub off onto the page, or stone as it may be.

At least that's what it looked like when I took an interest in the picture and tried to work it out.

Hope that helps.

PS: I joined Groovy Wedding tonight, brilliant site, I'm looking forward to reading more.

This is great.. I love the slate name card idea!
The place where I am having the reception provide my name cards but I am tempted to try something like that too! I have some white wooden stars that might look good with names on in silver pen.
I used to paint stones as a kid (and have had my class do it at school), good old poster paint and a fine brush works great if you spray varnish them afterwards.

You could try priming the surface with diluted PVA glue. Should dry clear and matt and would perhaps let the metallic pen key to the surface better....

Hi girls - I am a complete newbie but I am doing the stones as placenames & have it more or less sorted

We are using stones for the guys & shells for the girls. Luckily we live 5 mins from a beach so have no problem in accessing materials!

I found a great product for writing the names (after much research). We will use a product called "Liquid Pearls" - it's American & made my a company called Ranger, based in Tinton Falls, NJ 07724 - I tried it out on a glass candle votive & it worked perfectly. It needs about 6 hrs to dry but it looks great - dries to a raised finish. We bought the bottles in a craft shop & they were €5 each. I'm going to asl my SIL2B to write the names for me

Cheers

Hi there Babaduck,

WOW to you - sounds like you've got the placenames on stones sorted - hope Jen reads this - she'll be chuffed!

Welcome to all the newbies - take no notice of Bunny, she's mad as a hatter, but we let her stay to keep the peace.
