Im going to attempt to make my invitations, order of service etc. Has anyone any helpful hints and tips to make them look professional cos I dont want something that looks like its been made on Blue Peter. If I get some really high quality card and stuff, would that help?:confused:
You could do an ask Jeeves and see what he comes up with, search under card making and see what happens. I have just searched on Google for you but didnt really find anything
I am afraid I looked at doing it, had a play and never came up with anything I was really happy with. It just looked too home made (by a 5 yr old as opposed to trendy home made). I also couldn't see a hugh cost saving so i bought mine in the end.
Sorry - not much useflu advice I am afraid.

Hiya Laura....I am making my own Invites and Order of service. I bought some nice quality card (linen effect) in WHSmith and got heavy duty card in plain white from a local stationers shop which was cheap considering the quality.
I found a lovely picture of a bride and groom on a CD Rom I had which looks like its been hand painted in water colours. I printed this on the front of my invite and added the wording 'Wedding Invitation' to it in an arch (done on Microsft Works). I bought loads of little lilac bows and stuck one of the back of the brides dress.
For the order of service, the same linen effect paper and card on the outside. I found a picture of the outside of my church on the church website and transformed it into a black and white line drawing effect using a photo editor. I gave it a celtic border and just added the wording. It is held together by using a single hole punch in the corner and tying lilac ribbon through it. All the editing was done on Microsoft's Publisher.
I had great fun trying different designs! I say try it out!
PS there are piccies somewhere on the boards of my home made stuff!

If you have a look on the Hobbycraft website www.hobbycraft.co.uk go into the Ideas Library section and in the drop down box choose weddings there are four different types of invitations with step by step instructions. Together with other wedding type stuff to make.
Hello Valentina! I am making my own invitations etc and spent hours surfing for ideas and suppliers. The best I could find in the end was www.craftcreations.co.uk - worth getting the catalogue first. Mulberry paper is excellent, lots of different colours - really effective (tip - dip thin paintbrush into water and draw the outline of the shape you want, then tear, gives a really good feathery edge) Someone else suggested a wet cotton bud. I am in the midst of making my own invites at the mo, and they are turning out alot better than I thought they would and look very professional.
I got all my paper / card stuff from Craft Creations, with the roses from ******** and Selfridges. Also thin gold wire from a craft shop. I guess what I'm saying is, just have a little hunt around and see what is best for what you envisage in your head.
Once you start, it's really easy and sooo much fun. Good luck
I made all the invites for my wedding, and I would say keep it relatively simple if you've never been particularly creatoive before. I printed the invite onto A4 quality card and folded it in 3. I then ties tartan ribbon round it to keep it closed. Everyone remarked on how good they looked - No-one guessed they were handmade!!

I second Rebekah on this one, its best to keep it pretty simple if you're making it yourself. I toyed with the idea of making the invites myself but in the end a designer friend did them for me, and it was simple, stylish and modern and worked really well. I made the order of service myself, and am doing the thank you cards myself and the best way to avoid them looking a bit crap is not to get carried away and go overboard with fancy bits and pieces.
