Default Who was going/has gone to New York?

Seem to remember there being a thread here about one of you lucky souls going to New York.

Who was it and does anyone have the recommended places to visit?

Cheers

Dawn

Sorry - just to add to that - what is the most convenient area to stay in in order to get around by foot and see everything?

Thanks - I really appreciate it Kas.

I have to be honest and say it's as much of a blessing as it is a curse.

I haven't told anyone at work about the Concorde trip in case they think i'm showing off. Our friends came round yesterday and we didn't say a word - they're contemplating how much more debt they have to get into for a new house at the moment and it seemed insensitive to bring it up.

A lady at work asked me where we were off to (she takes care of the holiday sheets and obviously saw i'd booked time off) - I told her we were off to NY (no point lying) but didn't feel I could say more than that.

We've just found out that we've got no bonuses at work this year and everybody's got the hump - hardly the time to go bouncing round the office - so I had to tell someone (hence spilling all to you guys).

Thanks for listening to me go on about it and not thinking we're a couple of poncy gits - we're not!

You are more than welcome Dawnie,

i did the same thing when i found it we were going to NY, came on here and let rip (as they say!!!).

We have the same situation at work with no bonuses etc, which has made it difficult for me as this weekend I was in Madeira as hubby had won a four day trip there through his work, then next week we are off to NY and at the beginning of May i am off on a girly holiday! but it has all come out of the blue and in some ways is quite bad timing - i.e spending money!

I am sure most people will be extremely pleased for you (and a tad envious in the nicest possible way.

As for your friends, it is their choice to get into the debt for the new house - the same as anyone who moves into a bigger/newer house - it is not for you to worry about!

Ooooh i sound like a counsellor! Anyway enjoy every minute of the build up and the break......i have today been told by a friend that apparently there are tons of shoe shops in Greenwich Village some vintage - yum yum!

Right off my soap box and back to the washing!

Karen x x

Dawnie - I'm back!

It abso-bloody-lutely amazing. We had the most fantastic time. New York is so clean and the people are so nice. Definitely not what I was expecting (seen too many films!).

Anything you want to know don't hesitate to ask............

I went last year for my 30th birthday and we are going back in the New year.

There are two places I would recommend for shopping at low prices. You shouldnt miss going to Woodbury common which is an outlet village with tons and tons of designer shops, you can catch a bus from the bus station, and Century 21 , a department store with great bargains which is opposite ground zero

And of course Macys , the biggest department store in the world, which was pretty close to were we stayed.

One thing tho, I did not find New York that clean, I was quite shocked how shabby it was when driving in from the airport. Although places like 5th Avenue are obviously a lot nicer!

Broadway is fab! you must try to catch a show, and maybe spot some famous faces we did! We saw Matthew broderick and Nathan somebody? from Mousehunt? And also Ash were staying at our hotel, the New Yorker, we had our picture taken with them they were there doing a gig.

You'll have a fab time, there is soo much to do!!

Oh and of course you could see a basketball game, we stayed near Madison Square garden, but didnt have time so thats one thing on our list next year.

I could go on an on, I think there will never be enough time to take in all New York has to offer, its fantastic!

Mandy x
