Default Yay, off to Zakynthos on Friday

Hurrah - thanks to Lo's recommendation (no pressure ) we're off to Zante this week for a week of sun, sand and

Our first holiday - just the two of us - all year.

I can't wait.

Any recommendations for a nice restaurant to take Steve to on his birthday?

Sorry can't recommend any nice restuarants as our time in Zante was not a good one.

We went there for our honeymoon and it was the worst time ever.

We went with Thomson Gold so we could get a good hotel and when we got there, the hotel initially looked great then we walked into our room. It was dark and dank mould in the bathroom, small twin beds and you couldn't swing a cat on the balcony. and this was supposed to be a superior room!!!!

we went on a couple of excursions around the island and they were terrible. The boats overcrowded etc.

We did finally find a beach next to the hotel which was kinda nice but we didn't find it until 2 days before we left.

Where our hotel was was in the middle of nowhere as well so wasn't easy to get around.

Sorry didn't mean to go on.

You didn't say whereabouts you were staying but Keri Lake is worth a visit...
http://www.zanteweb.gr/keri-lake/index.html
You can sit in a taverna & watch the sun go down behind Marathonisi (island shaped like a turtle).
http://seaside-zakynthos.tripod.com/appartments.html
If you walk up towards the Keri lighthouse there's a restaurant/bar that has a wonderful view of the 'little cheeses' http://www.liveris.gr/en/taverna/taverna.html

you lucky buggers!! I'm SO jealous (but you'll have a great time!!)

Erm, if you want a fantastic, authentic meal, ask Jimmy (the complex manager) for the address to his friends restaurant in Katastari (he'll probably take you, he's such a friendly chap!) If he can't take you, it's only a 20 min walk out of the complex to the left, so not too far.

Otherwise, all the other's restaurants are fab! The complex is 15 minute stroll outside of the resort centre and has an onsite cafe and bar. If you walk down into the town, there's a restaurant being run by a guy called Pete and his family - his wife cooks fresh every night, try the chilli The Picadilly (just down from Pete's on the left) is supposed to be fab, but it was chocker every night so we didn't get to try it! Or there's a restaurant on each corner at the T-junction, the one on the left does fab swordfish, and the one on the right had a wonderful traditional greek meat dish!!

Then there's zorbas (i think) which is down to the left on another junction, fab pork kebabs and chips

Hope this helps, there's loads of great restaurants all through the resort, you'll come home stuffed!

Oh, and watch the wine, it's locally brewed and damn strong - order half caraffe's at a time please !!! *hic*

Have a lovely time, try and book yourself on the luxury turtle cruise, worth every penny even if you don't get to see a turtle!

Loadsa luv,
Lo xx

PS: I want a postcard please!

Cheers people. I'm going to print this thread off and make sure we get to those restaurants - especially the morning doughnut and bread bit!

You have no idea of the hankering I have for fresh bread!

Whereabouts are you going? I went to Alikes / Alikenas and can recommend the taverna halfway between the two, on the 'main road'

Steve & Dawnie are staying in Alikes, is that taverna the one on the right on the way out of Alikes (just down past the bridge)? They do free horse & carriage rides there from Alikes main street

Think I might have to take a trip to our local taverna, I need dolmades and tzatziki

Mmmmm... of course, there's always the Pie Shack for a really classy meal - just opposite the nice Taverna!
