Default Bonjour!!!!!

Missed me and K? Go on, lie if you need to

Well, back today after driving 1050 miles in the last 48 hours <ouchmypoorbackicon> . Honestly, its like driving from John o' Groats to Lands End, but have you been on French motorways? Bugger all else on them, its ace! I did slow down when I was going past the Gendarme at about 90 .....

Well, first place we went to was St Hilaire-de-Riez on the west coast of France about half way down. It was really nice, very much set up for holidays and camping. We stayed in a largeish mobile home, which is just across the road from the beach. And my god, what a beach, these give you a taster .......

The weather at the start was bloody hot, about 30-32 degrees. It started to get cooler after the first few days and by the end it was very changeable and we had a spectacular thunderstorm one night. Anyway, after 3 nights in the first place, we upped sticks to travel south to Messanges, which is about 30 miles north of Biarritz. We were there 3 years ago and loved it so were looking forward to returning. Thing is, its never the same second time around is it? (ooer missus). It was perfectly lovely, but it was just not as good as 3 years ago. It was busier cos we were there a week or 2 earlier than we went last time, and the sea was much choppier so couldn't have as much fun swimming in the sea cos the waves were chuffing huge!!!

Anyhoo, here's some piccies. First we have our mobile home which was pretty nice, very peaceful spot at the edge of the camp. Lots of wildlife around, lots of red squirrals and fluffy bunny wabbits. This friendly Robin came in one evening for a look around.

I also had a little run in with the local Mozzies. 37 of the little twats decided to chow down on my legs and arms and the pic below is what I was left with. I had to go and see the local Doctor for a prescription for anti allergy tablets and cortisone/antibiotic cream .....

We went to a place called Pau for the day, a town just down the road from Lourdes, but Carol Decker wasn't at home (obscure 80s music gag there ...... T'Pau ............ <:tumbleweedicon: )

This is the main Chateau in the town which was pretty spectacular. You can also see myself and K in what became familiar poses, sat on a street cafe watching the world go by. We also found that essential French town accessory, the Irish Shop . Finally, after Pau we went for a little trip south into the Pyrennes to this little town called Laruns. Any further south and we'd have to start speaking Spanish.

This is the final batch of photees, we did a little sorte into Spain to visit Bilbao which was about 150 miles away from where we were staying. I'd always wanted to see the Guggenheim museum, as its a stunning piece of modern architecture <J pretends to be cultured>. We went in too, saw lots of modern art and a couple of Piccassos. But the main thing is the stunning building, of which there are various photos below. Also, they have a bizzare huge dog sat at the front, made out of flowers ....... those crazy Spaniards!!!!

Welcome home! We did miss you. Really we did! Beautiful photos, and I sympathise very much with all of the bites. I had a similar set when I was in Texas. I was eaten alive by some family of small creatures in the Mission San Juan in San Antonio.
