We're thinking of taking up skiing or snowboarding. Sadly we can't afford the expense of a trip abroad to try it out, instead we're thinking of booking some lessons at the Tamworth snowdome.
Have any of you been/had lessons there?
Also, skiing or snowboarding? What's best?
and where's the best place to buy salopettes from? (at a bargain price preferably!)
You can buy them here:- http://www.tchibo.co.uk/is-bin/INTER...&BackTo=Search (do a search using the word 'ski' and lots of other things come up too. Only while stocks last.
However my brother buys his kids ones in ASDA! Ebay is always worth a look too.
Skiing great,we went on honeymoon and I loved it but every time I've tried to rebook things have happened to stop us.If you are looking for skiwear try charity shops in about march when all those people who thought they would like to go away for xmas and new year realise they hated it.
Also you could try skating at the snowdome, tho its not the best rink in the woeld.
My 3 year old nephew went sledging at the snowdome and loved it - wish I lived closer so I could go too
Keep an eye out in your local papers too, ski companies do fairs at large hotels when it's not wedding fair season, we've had 2 here in the last month or so.
HTH,
Lo x

I ski and snowboard, both are great fun. The main difference to me is, from a beginners point of view, that you get quicker satisfaction from skiing cause you will be able to get about quickly within a few hours (style not neccessary), however with snowboarding I found it took a commitment to being prepared to be on my backside or face constantly for 3 solid painful days before being able to go anywhere, and it still hurts a lot more than skiing!
Give it a go, and watch out for really cheap ski deals, it can be surprising what you can find.
Update! We are now going snowboarding (only at the snowdome and for an hour's lesson)... there's no turning back because you have to pay in advance!! I'll let you know how battered and bruised I am at the end of it!
(Oooh, and in the end we got some bargain salopettes from TK Maxx - they have some great stuff, as well as some rubbish...)
Well I'm back from snowboarding now and OMG - I have never spent so much time sat on my arse and making a prat of myself! It was a one hour lesson and I think I need about 100 to be able to stand up for longer than a second... Perhaps I'm more of a skier?! Hubby was very good though and I was impressed.
Excellent news!!! Stick with it cause honestly it won't be long till it clicks and you'll be off.
Hope your backside is not too bad. I went a couple of weeks ago for the first time this season and oh my god did I hurt for the next week, I landed on my butt on the exact same bone 3 times on icy snow and had a bruise that was a beauty, it was about 9 inch long by 4 inch wide. I'm wearing cycling shorts underneath my salopettes next time.
Gee, I don't know if it will ever click! I'm not bruised at all now though, just have fired up my whiplash from a few months ago and can hardly move my upper body. Oh well!
