Default Has anyone???

We're hopefully going to Amsterdam for a weekend when Matt gets back from Iraq, I've just a quick question......

Has anyone booked a hotel abroad via their website or the country's "tourism" website??
If so are the prices quoted acurate??
Are there hidden costs??

I've found a really nice hotel, and on Last Minute.com it would cost about £255 for the 2 nights... but if I booked it via Hollands Tourist Website, the same hotel for the 2 nights would cost about £180!!! So quite a bit cheaper, which would mean we could get a better flight time (the time we want is quite expensive) but would we end up being charged more when we actually went to pay at the hotel??

Any ideas???

It's the Victoria Hotel on page 4 http://www.lastminute.com/lmn/hotels...2&searchType=4

This is the price guide from the tourist site..... http://www.holland.com/include/loada...erdam.info/en/

I can't seem to find the hotel, on the link you for lastminute.com - probably something I've not done!
Anyway, the reason lastminute.com makes money is cos people are lazy, and want to book everything in one place. So obviously, they mark up everything to take their cut.

Now, having said that, if something goes wrong with either your flights or your hotel if you book each separately, you are not covered by any of the normal ABTA insurance etc. So make sure you have decent travel insurance, or are prepared to book another hotel/flight with your own cash. Additionally I THINK if you book on a 'foreign' website a recent ruling says you are not covered on your credit card - just on a british one - but that may change.

So, the moral of the tale is get decent insurance yourselves - and have a lovely time!

Not quite the same thing but I agree with K.

Steve and I recently spent a weekend in the New Forest. Last Minute wanted £85.00 per night for the hotel we wanted. I phoned the hotel directly and they quoted me £60.00 per night.

If it's the same hotel I can't see that there would be any problem with booking it with the Dutch tourist board.

I hope you both have a wonderful time.
