Default Any one been to Beirut??

There was a bit about Beirut on the holiday programme earlier this week - it looked really interesting and I fancy a trip over there but I'm still not 100% convinced. Any one been there, if so, what did you think??

I saw that the other day too. Some of it looks quite nice but don't think I'd fancy going there really.

Ha! That's what the tour guides used to say about Belfast!

I was actually reading a travel report about Beirut in the paper last weekend - I think it would be fascinating - very Lonely Planet! Apparently there's a lot of very rich people flooding back in to it. could ask the people I know who emigrated to Oz from there for you, but as they left years ago, under not auspicious circumstances, I don't think they'd give an impartial review!

I say go for it. But then, I'm hard being from NI an' all...LOL

@ Di

Actually I can remember the phrase 'war torn west ...Belfast/Beirut' being interchangeable in the lates 80s by some Belfast natives...

Actually, KarenE, you're right about that! It's all coming back to me now (but certainly not in a Celine Dion way)
