I was just wondering if anyone is from Edinburgh or knows the area well, if they could give me some recommendations of places to go out to eat and drink, It's my fiances stag do at the end of March and he will be there with 17 friends for two nights but as neither of us have been before he wondered if anyone could give him some tips, many thanks.x.

Hmm, well i lived in Edinburgh at the time and I'm struggling. i can name a couple of great vegetarian restaurants but i am thinking this isnt' what they want!

Can you give me more idea of what sort of place they might be looking for and i'll have a think?

To be honest, they'd probably find most of what they wanted on Rose Street (a lane parallel to Princes St) - loads of pubs.

Will get Matt to have a think (He's an Edinburgh lad), well he was before the forces got hold of him

One thing I will say is to let them know well in advance that EVERYWHERE is now smoke free, which is fantastic for non-smokers but I know it was very strange for Matt to see places in a different light/smell!

Im sure that they are staying in a hostel on princes st, they just want pubs and a good nightclub and prob a strip/lap dancing place of some sort! but that is up to them to find!. I'll tel Rich about Rose st. The majority of them smoke so it is good to know in advance that eveywhere is smoke free, i think that they just take it for granted that you are still able to smoke in most places as the restrictions aren't as strict at home. As for food their usually happy with a nice pub meal.

Thank you for the advice.x.

Matt knows where they used to be and we're heading up at the end of February so I'll get him to find out if they're still around and we can let you know if you want!
I think last time we were up and he was chatting to a friend, a lot of them have "moved"

If you want anywhere looked for give us a yell and I'll see what he can do!

I was there a bit earlier this year and whilst it was a total beer fest there were some fantastic pubs on the roads in front of Edinburgh Castle.

Can't remember most of them as I was well and truly pissed for most of the weekend!

Hiya

I know you said end of March so I hope this isn't too late).

My fiance organised his friends Stag night in Edinburgh a couple of years ago (they are from Fife which is close by). They started out by going to Laserquest (I know they are just big children). They then went to the brewery where you see how beer is made, then get to drink pretty much as much as you like for a set time. They then made their way along rose street on a pub crawl, then, went to a lap dancing club. After they had been to the brewery, they made loads of challenges and forfeits for the stag and made him get changed into a special outfit (pink t-shirt and jeans, bought from TK Maxx for very little, and with STAG written on the back) and zoned off the trousers with marker, so that he got points based on where he got girls to sign the trousers, with *cough* delicate areas gaining more points. I can't remember what they did when he got lots of points, but by that point they had all had a few and didn't really care anyway.

That was probably a bit too much detail, but they really enjoyed the brewery tour! Hope he has fun.

It's a shame it's the end of March, as there's a rival to Laserquest hoping to open around May time! www.darkocean.co.uk (My kind of Brother-in-Law is opening it up!)

I miss Edinburgh already and we've only been back a few weeks!
