Default Yippeeee! Summer hols booked!

We're off to Woolacombe Bay! Got to be slightly less chavtastic than Butlins and although there isn't the same huge range of stuff I think I would prefer it if there was less in the way of amusements and more in the way of fresh air, given George's current preference for a Wacky Warehouse over a walk on the canal.

I would love to go abroad but at the moment think it's more important to holiday cheaply and prioritise making our house somewhere pleasant to live so we have booked a week in a caravan for a bargain £400!

I'm so excited about it all, it's pathetic really!

Woolacombe is ace I stayed in a static on a holiday park years ago (I was 17) with my family (and my then boyfriend who became hubby no.1). Some family friends also stayed in a tent on another section of the same park so there were a load of us. Ah, the memories... <wanders off in a daydream>

I was about to say that going abroad doesn't always have to be expensive but then I remembered that you're both teachers and can only go at peak time. Duurr-brain that I am! I can recommend Eurocamp holidays though and they're not usually mega-expensive even in the Summer hols. I think there's another similar type of thing called Vacans Soleil or something but have never looked into it.

As a kiddie we always went on camping or caravanning holidays to the likes of Wales, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall and I absolutely loved it I didn't go abroad until I was 13 years old and that was a one-off until I left home and got a job.

I hope that my child, looking back on today
Will remember a mother who had time to play;
Because children grow up while you're not looking,
There are years ahead for cleaning and cooking.
So, quiet now cobwebs go to sleep.
I'm nursing my baby, and babies don't keep.

Whatever time you think the boys are up to a longer drive, you can get a week in France here for the same sort of money - including crossings.

Obviously it's much cheaper outside of the school holidays if anyone else is considering it.

Yes, sadly it's the price we pay for getting long holidays! I always envy people who can go off peak! To be honest, it suits Nick a treat cos he doesn't really like abroad. i, on the other hand, love it and feel very hard done by!

I used to love staying in a caravan. I am very much looking forward to all the boys being slightly older so that we can stay in one on the Isle of Wight for a week like I always used to. I am desperate to take them to Blackgang Chine and Alum Bay etc.

That sounds fab. When I was a kid we always went on caravan holidays as my parents had their own caravan. We went all over the place and always had a fab time.
