Going to NY tomorrow, fly from heathrow at 6pm. I think we have everything sorted pretty much, not packed yet, but have passports, Annabels birth cert (she is about 3 on her passport) Travel Insurance, currency, dollars for tipping, a guidebook, co codamol, games to play on the plane, confirmed accomodation, booked a New York pass for a week etc.
I havent been on a long plane journey since I was 11, so am a bit nervous about it for some reason. I think I need books and some more books. Does anyone have any tips for 8 hour plane trips? Or New York tips?
I love flying the longest flight I've had was 14 hours. Is it more keeping occupied you're thinking of? I think with games and books time will pass pretty quickly. Don't forget when they feed you that passes some time with all the dishing out food and clearing away again and as it's an evening you may nod off too. I have no New York tips. Hope you enjoy yourselves though

I'm so jealous, I love New York! We were hoping to go back this december but went to Florida in April so couldn't afford it I don't really have any tips but I know you'll have an amazing time, oooh did I mention i'm jealous?!?!?
xxxxxxx
We went for Xmas a few years ago and it was fab! Just make sure you have warm shoes/socks It was bloomin freezing and there was loads of snow. Have chicken noodle soup and sun dried tomatoe toasted bagels. Delish!
Also, try New York cheesecake in little italy (faints) and go to a jazz bar. And go and see Annie Get Your Gun (the best musical I have ever seen.)
It can be bitterly cold in winter, so be aware of it. However, I'm sure you can buy whatever you need...
As for the flights, they'll be showing at least one film and possibly two, as well as feeding and watering you. As long as you have a book or 2 you'll be fine.
Century 21 Department Store is the website for Century21 dept stores - a bit like tk maxx with fab bargains. The one in Brooklyn is much quieter than the one in Manhattan.
I absolutely love the museums in NYC - you must go into the guggenheim just for the architecture. It is just beside the Museum of Modern Art - which has an OK cafe but isn't too cheap.
Can't really give many tips for long haul flights cos I was mainly freaking out for mine to Aus, purely cos I was on my own. As its a night flight you will more than likely fall asleep though But I have to say I didn't realise that I was on a plane for 24 hours.
Have fun & take care
xx

We flew to NY with BA and had the choice of about 8 newly released movies plus other channels with comedies/news etc. The flight didn't seem that long! There is so much to do in NY I'd make a list (buy a good travel guide to look at on the flight maybe?) of places you really want to see as you will have trouble cramming it all in!
You'll have a ball! I'd go back in a heartbeat!

Today we did SO much stuff, walked about 10 miles, walked all through central park, saw Chandler and Monica J, then all up 5th Avenue, Park Avenue, ate in a Diner, went into Tiffanys, went into De Beers, looked at al the posh shops, bought some stuff in gap, spent ages in the apple store on 5th and bought a red nano.. and tons more
HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone as there is an hour for UK people, its half six pm here. Tonight we are going here Vynl.com - vynl Resources and Information. This website is for sale! and then heading up to central park to the fireworks. No times square for us, too packed and too standy.
