Default Hotel recs in Stratford

Can anyone recommentd any really nice hotels in Stratford-upon-avon.

I need to get a few days break from my life here as things are getting tough so need some place to go clear my head. I have been once before to stratford and thought it was a nice place.

I am just looking for somewhere close to the town, preferbably walking distance. I'd like something with a bit of character so it takes me away from normal living (if you know what I mean)

Any help will be much appreciated

xx

I have no idea Karen but will be watching to see others suggest as it's somewhere I've always wanted to go back to after going as a child and falling in love with the place

I was after some personal recommendations from friends as for somewhere I'd be going on my own I'd want to know it was good.

So either no one has been or none of you really give a sh*t

Ok never stayed in stratford as gran lived up the road from there and we just used to stay with her.
I have been to a wedding at Alveston Manor and it was very nice. The only other place was out of town in stratford but it was very run of the mill to be honest.

Was it deffinately staying in stratford you were after doing?Cos there is a lovely place about 10 miles outside but you would need a car.

Not really, cos I'd be driving to the hotel, Just thought it would be easier to get round if I was in the centre (ish)

Hope you're ok Karen.

I've not been but a friend of mine had their wedding reception here and they said it was wonderful. She would definitely recommend it. I drive past it quite regularly and it's in gorgeous grounds. Don't think you could walk to the centre of Stratford (it's on a road leading to the centre but it would be a long walk I think!). Menzies Welcombe Spa & Golf Club Hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon - Menzies Hotels I've been walking near the grounds and it's lovely, feels like you're miles from anywhere. The hotel itself looks really grand and plush.

Hope you have a lovely time, where-ever you choose.

Sorry Karen, that's really harsh and very uncalled for. K was trying to help, the least you could do was be polite even if it wasn't what you needed.

Apology due maybe?

And as it happens, i have been to Stratford and it's lovely but it was SO long ago (I was 16) that there's no hope in hell of me remembering the name of the place we stayed.

I've only ever been once. I was about 15 and we camped in a hall somewhere. I do remember it being lovely but have no idea on places. I do go on a forum with a lot of people from around that area though so will ask them.

We live so close I have never stayed over night there. My bro was going to get married there, in Ettington Hall, which is quite near and a drive in. Those ones K posted look gorgeous, and Stratford is very touristy and the Americans love it and so they would all be a high standard whichever one you chose.

If you are having a car then why not look at
Arrow Mill Hotel (I am biased with that one as had wedding reception there and they were fab as they checked the bath before I got there to check for spiders as there was a huge one there when we went to look round)

I havnt actually stayed there but have had lunch at the Alverston before and its a lovely hotel and within walking distance of the centre.

The swans nest is meant to be lovely and is again in the centre.

On the outskirts is the Charlcote Pheasant which is opposite a beautiful manor house and park (national trust) and a fantastic hotel. My parents go quite a bit for lunch and dinner and ive been for sunday lunch.

Thank you guys.

Well I've actually gone and done it. I've booked in to the Swan's Nest one for a couple of nights in 2 weeks time!!!

I'm quite scared to actually be doing this on my own, but I keep thinking to myself I used to stay in hotels when I was working away so should be near enough the same

Just now got to get the approval of my parents and also see if they'll have my dog!!!

You don't need your parents approval - book a kennel if they're being difficult.

What K said. Those changes you mention in your journal. Maybe start with not looking for their approval?

Well done for booking somewhere and if you can't afford a kennel and your parents won't have him fetch him to us
