Neil is going to a conference in San Diego in June and I am going out to meet him afterwards for a holiday!!
We are going to spend 5 days in and around San Diego then go on a road trip spending quite a while in the Sequoia and Kings canyon and Yosemite National parks before finishing up just north of San Francisco, probably Napa valley area or thereabouts. We will be stopping off in various places like Carmel/ Monterey along the way. We will be there over the 4th July for all the fireworks etc which will be nice.
2 and a half weeks of utterly fabulous holidayness!!
We went before almost exactly 3 years ago but we had Neil's work colleague tagging along with us and stayed in really basic hostels etc. It was still fantastic but this time we are going to go for a small step up the accomodation ladder and stay in slightly less basic places and it will be just the two of us (probably our last big holiday just the two of us for a very long time!!!)
We have spent the last however many years worying about paying off debts and trying to save to get on the property ladder and now we finally have our debts paid off and are able to save for a deposit for a house the goalposts have moved again and its almost impossible to get a first time buyers mortgage so we thought sod it! Lets just go enjoy ourselves while we can. We can start saving when the holiday is over and won't regret not having done the things we wanted to while we could.
That sounds fantastic! I love the idea of a driving holiday in the states but as Barry is only learning to drive at the mo its a no go as I would be left with all the driving to do!

Remember that the things around you are never as important as whose arms are around you.
Lucky you! I really love that area - Santa Barbara and Carnmel and Monterey and Yosemite too. We did a similar route along the West coast in September 2005 - I remember seeing the most amazing sunset I've ever seen along there. I'm sure you'll have an amazing time, I'm so envious. Not sure if you called at the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo on your last trip but if not, try to have a quick stop there - such a whacky place it's great!

I drive by the Madonna Inn every day to and from work Hannah and I like to have tea and cake in the cafe for a treat.... they have very very yummy gateaux! If you're coming through this area and feel like a mini Groovy get-together, just let me know!
Sounds like a wonderful itinerary you've got planned!
Joules do they still have the weird doll on the creaking swing there?! I loved that they had pink sugar on the tables, so I can see why Hannah would like it there. My hubby took our camera to the loo so that I could see the waterfall there!!

I hope that my child, looking back on today
Will remember a mother who had time to play;
Because children grow up while you're not looking,
There are years ahead for cleaning and cooking.
So, quiet now cobwebs go to sleep.
I'm nursing my baby, and babies don't keep.

Yep, that wierd doll is still swinging away.... she gives me the creeps actually I was going to mention the loo.... you should've just gone in yourself, everyone does! You should see the place when it's all decked out for Christmas, it's something else.... overboard, yet pretty and festive!
C'mon everyone... fire up the Groovy Jet and come visit!
Joules I'd love to meet up for a mini Groovy get together but I'm not sure whether we will be very near to where you are. Do you live in san Luis Obispo?
We drove through there last time (didn't see the madonna Inn, just looked it up on the net and it certainly looks like a very strange place, lol!) and stayed a night just up the coast in Cambria before heading up Big Sur towards Monterey. We are doing things a bit differently this time and are planning to go from san Diego to Bakersfield/ Lake Isabella or thereabouts then up inland to Sequoia and Kings Canyon and then on up to Yosemite. From Yosemite we will go across to Carmel/Monterey for a couple of nights and although we will probably drive down Big Sur a bit and go for a bit of a walk somewhere there I don't think we will go down that far as we want to then head up to just north of San Francisco (Point Reyes Station/ Bolinas sounds lovely) for 4 days before we fly home.
I think a trip to California on the Groovy jet would be a great idea. we could all stay at the Madonna Inn in the many bizarre rooms!
