Now where should we go for our hols? Ben's got some time booked off in May and I'm not sure what would be best with Flissy.
We ruled out skiing - not because we thought it would be too hard to do, but it would be a bit mean just to put Fliss into a creche while we went off skiing. So we're going to go next year when we find another couple to go with.
I think it would be nice to get some sun, but I don't want to get bored, so somewhere with more than a beach and pool.

Some days it just isnt worth chewing through the leather straps in the morning!
It depends what you're after with regards to Flissy. Do you want to put her in a creche for a few hours, or keep her all to yourself? You'll find some resorts that have a creche for babies, but you'll have to pay extra for them.
Italy is fantastic for getting out and about. We went to Amalfi for our honeymoon 4 yrs ago and it was amazing! There was the beach and the pool, but also Pompeii, Vesuvius, Capri, Positano, Herculaneum etc. Plus May would be a nice time as it will be warm but not scorching for Flissy

There are plenty of nice places here, and it saves some of the things that go with taking a baby abroad, like a passport and worrying about the water, the heat, the sun etc etc

To be honest if you know the IOW so well, it might be worth doing that as your first holiday with Flissy, we've not had a "holiday" as such with Emma but have done numerous trips to Cardiff & Edinburgh with her!
It's safe, you know exactly where things are, which takes a lot of the stress out of it!
I have to say, if you were thinking about going abroad, why not pay the extra to stay in a really nice hotel in the IOW, you'll get the luxury etc but you'll be a bit more relaxed, or even rent a holiday cottage so you can come & go as you please!
Just an idea as I remember all to well all the things I worried about when we did our frist long trip to Edinburgh when Emma was about 6 months old!

We stayed in Sorento, when we stayed in teh Amlfi region...and loved it. It is a smallish town, but has lots of restaurants etc, and is really central..so you can get everywhere.
As far as the UK goes..well, up to you! We tried a caravan site in Cornwall for our first holiday with Alex. (Par Sands it was called). Never stayed on a static caravan site before..but it was fab! There was an indoor pool, for Alex to have a little "swim!" in, the beach was attached to the site, and the Eden project etc was close by. We also managed a trip to a vineyard...which we loved. Alex was about 4 months at the time.
Where ever you go, I guess the thing to consider is the evenings. We used to do cheepy trip quite alot...and would spend teh evening pottering round, or making a drink last hours in a bar...but with baby in tow, we tried to get somewhere with a TV...so we could sit and have a quiet drink...whilst Alex slept!
Hope you have a great time..where ever you chose!

Mel, I wouldn't recommend where we stayed as it was right at the top of the cliff on the coast. It was a lovely hotel, and the views were amazing, but it was just really awkward to get to and there weren't many kids there.
If you find a place nearer the bottom of the town it would be much easier

We went to Cornwall for our 1st holiday with Jake! He was about 6 months old!
We stayed in a lovely hotel in Newquay that was about 10 mins walk from the town centre. Right on the beach & they were fab with Jake! There was also an indoor swimming pool too which was good!
I think the idea of booking a cottage would work best. Definitely recommend avoiding hotels. At baby bed time you are stuck in the hotel room as you can't exactly leave! I agree that there are lovely places to go on south coast...cornwall, dorset and devon. we used to go down to the south coast in May as kids and the weather was always perfect...not too hot so the little one can enjoy running around outside too.
If you wanted some sun, what about somewhere like Majorca.
Guaranteed to be warmer than here, only a couple of hours travel too. You could hire a villa so you could all get comfortable in a home environment but then have a car to go and travel a bit.
