I answered your thread on Hitched Alaina, but it may have got lost in the answers. Have a look at our photos, www.picturetrail.com/jonathansel we had a grand old time, can highly recommend the southern half of the south island, thats the only bit we visited. Can highly recommend Dunedin, Te Anau, Milford Sound and Queenstown. The Southern Coastal Route is lovely well but take it easy, the roads are only gravel !!!!

Thanks Jonathan! Your photos look great. I think we are going to fly to Christchurch and hire a motorhome for a week to travel around. H2b wants to go skiing for a day but I've never done it before in my life!!
Hopefully going to book it in January. Yey!!

You can ski at Queenstown in the Remarkables mountain range (some of Lord of the Rings was filmed there). They'll be less snow around during their summer though (our winter).

Oh, and you may struggle to fly direct to Christchurch, you'll have to go to Aukland and then catch an internal flight to Christchurch.

We're going in September so I think it is just before the end of the ski season. We're stopping in Sydney for a few days first and I think there are flights from there, then after we are flying to Brisbane for a week to see my cousin.
Can't wait!
Thanks for your help

Thank you Sarah but h2b doesn't want to go now! So now we're looking at somewhere on the way home from Australia like Fiji or Thailand. I want to go to Bora Bora but it is a bit expensive!

Alaina, there are a lot of side trips you can take to South Pacific Islands which are pretty inexpensive. Vanuatu for instance (4 hrs or so, direct flights from Syd/Bne/Mel). Fiji is very touristy and they have had some civil unrest in previous years. There is a travel warning on Thailand at present too. We've just come back from the Cook Islands, which were wonderful - Sarah (Decords) has been there too and highly recommended it.

Do you want utter $$$$$ luxury, somewhere in the middle (luxury resorts but great local life where you can join in) or backpacker/motel style? I can think of a few places which might be good depending on what you want.

What airline are you flying? Air New Zealand flies to a lot of Pacific Islands as a stopover to UK.

Fiji is great but depends on where you go there. Go to one of the smallier islands and get away from Nadi as nothing nice from what Isaw there. I was in fiji for a week in May and have to say it was the best holiday of my life!!! I stayed on an island called Beachcomer - not really a honeymoon detination as there are a lot of bakpackers there either starting off their adventires or coming to the end of it. But it was really friendly as were the locals on it. You can go on island hoping trips also where you see the real life on a Fiji island. not a bad thing really and though they don't have alot, they have loads of what really counts, love, friendliness and imagination.

have a look on the net for resorts, they can be as luxurious as you like or basic. Also if you do go there, you have to try Kava!!!!!
I would so love to go again and can't recommed it enough!

Let us know what you decide!

take care
Jac

No idea where about yet but she liked the Coral coast? (i think that's where she said) Hopefully booking with Travelbag just after Christmas. Can't wait!

And it was not that long ago that they stopped this diet!!! Their dancing is very similar to Hawaiin dancing....oh I am so jealous!!! I will go back one day!!!!!
