I had excellent ice cream at Carrickfergus!

I went to NI once a long time ago and would have loved to have gone for longer than the 2 days I did.

The best bit was having my bag searched as I went into the shopping centre

Belfast is lovely!

Sorry for being so late in this discussion

I grew up with having my bag searched - God help you if you had a rucksack!!

I was very taken aback when I holidayed outside NI as a child, and didn't have our belongings checked!1

They don't do it any more I think now.

Last time I was in NI there were no bag searches before you went into the shops....... PHEW! Dread to think what they would have found if they had!

I was there in '93 and my firend (from NI) couldn't get over how excited I was at having my bag checked! She dined out on the story of me and my bag for years.... all the way through university and I couldn't go near a shop without someone making a joke

I maybe a bit on thick side but what is the thing with the Black taxis? why are they infamous? (I bet this is something that everyone but me knows about so please excuse my ignorance!).

The black taxis are famous (correct me if I'm wrong)because years (and I mean years ago) there were some killings connected with taxi drivers who weren't really taxi drivers if you get my drift!! They don't do bag searches anymore (they do in some places in Oz though!!), and in case anyone is still scared of going to NI, trust me - its more dangerous driving through most major towns & cities in England.

I know we make fun of it, but I'm serious when I say it's a great place.

Oh and Beth - that would have been Maud's icecream.......mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm............
