Default Dublin

Hi there,

I'm thinking about taking Steve to Dublin for his birthday for a long weekend.

Went to look on Expedia for a quote and got quite a good one, however wondered if anyone can recommend a good hotel.

We don't need a swanky place to stay, but somewhere which is pretty much in the middle of everything (near the Guinness factory and the town itself would be great - but is this possible - i.e. are they a long way away from each other).

Have you been? Where's best to visit?

Cheers for any replies.

We stayed at the Christchurch hotel opposite a very gothicy looking church), short bus ride from the guinness factory, short walk from temple bar, highly recommended, rooms were comfortable, food okay (but we ate out most nights!)

Will look up the details tonight if I remember, but I think it cost us £200 for 4 nights, B&B, which was for the 2 of us (so basically £100 each!)

I loved Dublin, and will definately go back!

HTH, Lo

I got engaged in Dublin - fantastic place! We stayed in the Harcourt Hotel (I think) which was very nice. It was about ten minutes walk from the town centre, near St James' Square. We then visited all the touristy type things on a tour bus. We went to a couple of fantastic museums - especially the one at the Collins Barracks (part of the National Museum).

I would also recommend a drink in the Odeon Pub (a few doors along from our hotel) which was absolutely beautiful and they have huge curtains to close half off and show films. We were sat there having a drink and the barman came over and said he was sorry to bother us, but did they mind if they showed a film. They then whipped out a huge screen and started running Grease! We moved into the other half because we were meeting two of Mark's cousins, but Declan kept sneaking off to watch as it was his favourite film. I had a lovely time in Dublin.

I've never been to Ireland - maybe I could go there in the summer by ferry? Or is it a long slog that way?

Nikki, we did it by Ferry, bonus was having our car, downside was the journey, but we caught the "fast" ferry, which only took 45 mins, straight into Dublin!

Oh, and don't do what we did and miss the early ferry, coz there ain't a lot to do in Holyhead

I really realy really want to go to Dublin. I'd like to go there for my hen, but think it will be too expensive for some people.
My mother has been 3 times - she is a huge U2 fan and she stayed in the hotel Bono owns.
Cant really tell you where to go but its supposed to be excellent. Go go!! (Can I come in your suitcase?)

Did I tell everyone about poor Bex? She missed her flight to Dublin cos of the big freeze and they all had to shell out full price for tickets to get there on a different flight! Cost them a fortune!
