Question Tipping the Registrar?

I hope someone can help... I'm from the U.S., and coming to Scotland to get married next week! Here, it's pretty standard to tip the officiant who's performing the service, on top of their fee. We've already paid all of our fees to be married in Scotland.

What I'm wondering is - do you tip the Registrar? And if so, what's a typical tip?

Your help is very much appreciated, as we leave on 19 April!!!!

Thanks,

I wouldn't...
tipping is far less common in UK anyway.
They're employed by the government - don't know how it works in US - but I'd feel odd tipping any government worker somehow...

I would say not. As Roz has said, tipping isnt as common here as it is in the USA where you are expected to tip everyone.

I will not be tipping the registrar, and I have never heard of anyone who has..

Good luck next week and have a fab day!

I am not sure if you did tip whether they would be in a position to accept - being government workers.

I think if they do a great job and you are happy, invite them to have a drink.

I agree with you all As government employees they would not be allowed to accept a tip.

We don't tip our registrars as they are employed to do that job.

An American friend of mine getting married in the USA on Saturday tells me that she and her fiance are being married by a family friend of theirs who is allowed to carry out marriages and I think they would pay her differently to the way we pay our fees over here

Have a lovely wedding! Are you both American?

Talking Thank you!

Thanks so much for all your help; you've put both our minds at ease.

Yes, we're both American - only my fiance has any Scottish blood (and even that's questionable), though I have English, Irish & Welsh blood. We chose Scotland because the laws make it rather easy to get married there (no residency requirement, etc), as opposed to most other European countries, and we wanted to just get away from it all. We'll only have the two witnesses, so we're basically eloping! We're planning to have a party at home this summer to celebrate with friends.

I'm very excited about the whole thing - we're getting married in Tobermory, which just looks beautiful. Can't wait!!!

Thanks again!
