Question Petals

Morning Everyone

Am after your opinions and advice about rose petals.

I thought it would be a really nice ides to have fresh rose petals scattered on the tables for the wedding breakfast. I thought red petals on a white linen table cloth would look romantic.

Questions:

1). Do you think this would look ok?

2). Do you think the petals would be totally crushed and look poo by the end of the meal?

I have some fabric ones at home from John Lewis but they are not as nice as I would have hoped (h2b went away and I scattered them all over the bed for when he got home Sorry if that is too much info! )

I wouldn't have loads, just a few scattered about.

Also, I don't want to buy these from my florist. We have to go to the venue the day before the wedding to give them our table plan and place cards, so I thought I could buy a bunch of fresh roses and take it with us then. On the wedding day they just need to tear the petals off the stem and scatter.

Have also thought about freeze dried rose petals (they are supposed to smell nice, site that cant be named do them), by if they are freeze dried wont they crumble? They wont look as nice and silky as fresh real petals will they?

So, what do you think? Nice but messy or what?

I think it would look romantic but I'd check with your venue to see if they mind (thinking of stains here). I know you've tried the JL fabric rose petals but have a look for Sia petals - they are very, very close to the real thing in terms of both look and feel and they now sell little fragrance sprays if you want them to smell too Guess who got a brochure through the door this morning??

I think that's a lovely idea & will definately look very romantic!

Can't help though as to what type to get, what will look best etc etc

I would check with the hotel that it's ok to scatter them on the table, our venue were great & let us scatter "just married" & "heart" sparkly bits all over the tables!

Keep us posted on what you decide on!

Oh yeah.... I think the rose petals on the bed is totally lush! Wonder if Matt will think of doing anything like Matt when I get back from my little trip away in May!

Thanks Angela, can you tell me where you go the brochure from? I have just searched for 'Sia Petals' and loads of florist sites came up.

Ahh bunny, I am sure he'll miss you loads and make your homecoming special

I got the brochure directly from Sia. They send me one every quarter ever since I made the mistake of filling out the info form at the back of a bridal mag (can't complain too much as I won a bottle of perfume!).

This is their corporate website (the UK specific website isn't available yet but they do have stockist lists online): http://www.sia-collection.com/

Good job you asked about petals Bee.... I've been thinking about using petals or garlands to decorate our table plan once its complete!! Turns out that SIA also do garlands

Just remembered:
The ******** shop in London (on Tottenham Ct Rd) sells some SIA products - I think that their artificial petals are SIA. I originally saw the petals in a florists and they let me feel them - not sure if ******** would though.

Hi B,

We did this with purple and pink petals. I mentioned it to the florist and she said it was no problem, the venue were fine with it too. The florist didn't appear to add anything to her bill to do this so it may be worth mentioning.

It did plook pretty, we also had vases of flowers with ivy trailing out of them onto the table.

We decorated our tables with with silk sia petals and it looked really nice.

Sia flowers are really nice I used them for my hair as well.

And I also foolishly filled out for a brochure and now get it all the time.

Thanks very much!

I'm glad you said you've done it Kas!

I think I'll speak to the venue about it to make sure they dont mind and see what they say. If they are fine with it, I think I'll use fresh otherwise I'll probably go for the Sia ones.

Thanks for all your help

I had red rose petals on the tables (I think - did I, girls? I never noticed myself) and the florist only used one flower per table - worked out quite cheap as I recall!
