Question Themes?

Hiya

I have just been thinking and I want a running theme for my wedding but I just cannot think of any!

So I need your help. I want this theme to run through favours, table settings, names for tables (and anything you can think of!). My imagination has gone to the dogs so you gotta help me!! As I feel like about it all...

So please get your thinking caps on and I will be ever so grateful and I can relax and

Thanks guys

Love Jen xxx

Themes as in colours or other stuff (for want of a better word)?

You could have a "Moulin Rouge" style wedding - I've seen some fab cakes around which have this theme. Loads of feathers and cleavage
A few people have had James Bond themed weddings (bond girl/villain table names, Aston Martin car to take Bride to reception etc)
Gothic.... my hairdresser is having a goth wedding (well, she's a diehard goth) with a black taffeta two piece dress and a Nightmare before Christmas cake from Chochywadydodah or whatever its called!
Medieval - in a lovely old castle with rich jewel toned dresses and decor (we were going to do this but I thought I'd be worried about smashing things all day long)
Nautical/South Pacific - you could get married on a moored ship (the SS Great Britain in Bristol is a great example) and do something imaginative with favours etc. Mind has gone blank here!
Flower themes - you could base everything around roses (v.expensive) or tulips for a spring wedding and perhaps give out potted tulip bulbs (in various colours) as favours. You could also tie labels on the pots so that they can be used for place names.
Lord of The Rings/Elvish themes seem to be becoming quite popular.... you could have a humanist ceremony in a forest glade with flowers strewn over the grass and a garland of flowers in your hair (not wildflowers as picking them seems to have become illegal)...

For colour based themes....
Silver and lilac
Black and white (seems to be popular if the wedding mags have any say in it!!)
Red and white - seems to suit both summer and winter but I prefer it for winter!
Shades of pink.... from hot pink to palest pink. This would look great if you have quite a few bridesmaids - you could have the eldest/CBM in hot pink and a little flowergirl in palest pink and the rest wearing shades somewhere between!! Masses of pink flowers (again in various shades) set off with ferns and ivy would make for a very romantic and sumptuous feel. I wouldn't go as far as pink food though!!
Shades of gold or silver
Bronze and orange - very autmnal colours.

We're having a mixture of themes.... our colours are pale gold/champagne with apricot and pale pink and we're having masses of roses in those colours. Table decorations will also have napkins tied with a rose on them for the ladies and just tied with ivy for the blokes. I'm looking forward to seeing it all coming together!

Hope this helps a bit,

Robsfi

I didn't have a theme as such, just chose my colours around the season. We got married in September, so had rich golds and burgandy's mixed with ivory

The best theme I've ever heard of was a James Bond theme. I can't remember who was doing it (was it JulesCat on the other site?) but she'd hired actors and everything!!!! Sounded fab

Good luck with all you plans, you're certainly in the right place here for help and ideas!!

same here..... did a "colour" thing rather than a theme!

Hubby got married in uniform, so I based the idea around his colour which was "Cyprus green". I had an emerald green dress & my flowergirl wore ivory! (Ivory & Green) plus is was a September wedding so the end of summer beginning of autumn!

Good luck & let us know what you go for!

I did the colour thing too - with a bit oOK! magazine glam thrown in with my invites and seating plan !

I'm racking my brains to think of some more themes in addition to the ones Angela came up with!

I think a James Bond wedding would be totally cool...if I were to have a film theme it would have to be Harry Potter though and then no one would turn up as they would all think I was sad

Default "Running" theme

I must be really tired because when I read those words I thought that you were a keen runner and wanted to celebrate that. So my mind was going along the lines of jogging shoes, Nike Swoosh on the wedding gown, sports drinks instead of wine etc!

It was only when I read the next post that I realised my mistake.

We are mixing the cultures of Australia and Cornwall, since my H2B was born in Melbourne and I spent all my childhood summers in Cornwall. So the homemade invitations feature wattle (Australian state flower) and primroses (seen in every Cornish hedgerow at Easter). The cake has sugar primroses and wattle on it. He'll be wearing wattle buttonhole and I'll be carrying eucalyptus in my bouquet somewhere.

We had a vague Harry Potter theme

The sermon was based around the books (done by Js dad as he is a CofE vicar); the table names were from the books, and the favours were Bertie Botts beans. The childrens cake was Harry Potter too - not the grown ups one though!

Carey, your wedding sounds lovely. I love the wattle idea.

I'm the opposite, over here in Australia marrying a Scot. So we'll be doing a bit of a Celtic theme - he's getting married in his kilt, plus some of his family will be wearing kilts also. Plus I'll be piped in. And we have a celtic knot on our invitations.

I love lilac as a colour, which from a distance kind of looks like his tartan (don't worry, it's not a purple tartan!!! hehe). So the colours we'll have will be ivory, lilac and gold highlights. So to tie those in I'll be having lavendar with cream roses in my bouquet, and the girls will be wearing lilac whilst I'll be wearing ivory.

I'm really happy with the choices so far.

Karen I would LOVE a Harry Potter themed wedding...but all my friends don't really like him that much and Jack has never even read the books! Maybe I can get him to love Harry as much as me before the big day? (now where did I put those books and chains to tie him down to read them)

Smile Thanks!!

Hi Everyone

Thanks for all your ideas! Much appreciated...

However, I don't think I'm going to have a theme after all.. Sorry

But I have just realised that my wedding is on Shakespeare's birthday (willl be exactly a year today!! ) so we may name our tables after his characters or famous Shakespearean lovers??? Not too sure.

Thanks again guys!
