Default Selling My Dress

Since my wedding I have had vague ideas about selling my dress but had yet to do anything about it. I haven't even had it cleaned yet But on Sunday I was walking past the Relate Dress Exchange place, that I have never even been in and they had a notice in their window saying "Wanted - Wedding Dresses over a size 16"

So I went in yesterday and the stuff looked a bit grotty in there, but I asked how the place worked anyway, and showed them photos of it. They got quite excited and reckoned that they would have no trouble selling it, and that they would take 50% of the money. Seeing as all the stuff is a bit old looking in there, I was a bit concerned about how much I would get.

They asked how much it had cost and all I knew was that the fabric had been around £100 and it took my Mum months to make it. So they said they would ask £200 +VAT for it. That would be great if I got £100 for it, and even if it doesn't sell I would have got it cleaned anyway! I also think it is quite apt that half the proceeds of my wedding dress would go towards financing Relate!

Anyway, I now just have to get it cleaned...

Nicola

I didn't realise they did that either!

Might give it a go. Haven't had any luck selling my wedding dress and it's getting old now!

I didn't know that it was that kind of shop until I went in there yesterday, and I was thinking that perhaps they just wanted donations of big wedding dresses, but they definitely give you some of the money.

If I manage to sell it I shall try to give my Mum the money, as she paid for the material and made the dress, but if she won't take it (which I suspaect she won't) I am sure that I can find something baby related to spend it on!

I finally got around to taking my dress into the shop on Tuesday and the lady in there was so pleased it was a big dress. She said that they didn't accept dresses at the size ten end of the scale as there was just no call for them. She said that the size ten bride was a dying breed I thought that was just so funny.

More importantly she put a higher price on my dress after seeing it for real rather than just in a photo. It is now £250 + VAT (of which I get half if it sells in the next six months) and £25 for the veil (which I made with off cuts from the dress!) I just hope that somebody buys it now!

Good luck with selling your dress. Hopefully someone will buy it soon.

That really is good news!

I hope for your sake you sell it through the shop, because then not only will you be happy with the money but you'll know that someone else will be a very happy bride in a gorgeous dress!
