I am in the process of trying to sort out my hen weekend for February, and after looking at the costs etc, i am not sure whether to go to Dublin or Edinburgh.............can anyone help me, and recommend which would be the best place to go??
Thanks, Libby

Ok, I might be biased cos I've never been to Dublin, but I do get the feeling that Dublin is a "normal" place to go..... so try something different, like Edinburgh!!
Lots of "different" places to go, things to see & do... Plus then you've got the night life!!!!
Good Luck with the choice....... wouldn't want to be in your shoes having to decide as I'm sure you're going to get lots of good advice for both places!

Some days it just isnt worth chewing through the leather straps in the morning!
I have never been to Edinburgh but my BMs partner lives there so she spend a lot of time there & says it's wonderful.
Dublins great but if what everyones saying about the frowning on stags/Hens then bonny Scotland may be your better bet

After lots of help our little born on 28th Jan 2008
when I kiss you goodnight I will
hold you a little tighter, a little longer. It is then, that I will thank
God for you, and ask him for nothing,
There really is LOTS to do in Edinburgh..... and as "touristy" as it is you just have to visit the Castle!! We go every time, even if it's just to pop in the shop! (Mind you I think it's a good thing we can get in free with Matt's Army ID otherwise it would cost us a fortune!)

I've been to both places for a long weekend and I must say I preferred Dublin, lots of great bars, lots of good food, really great atmosphere.
I might be biased though, because it was absolutely FREEZING in Edinburgh when we went (around Oct I think!)!
Whichever you go to though, you'll have a FAB time!
I've never been to a hen do in Edinburgh but I've actually just come back from my hen week end in Dublin.
It was fantastic and we didn't have any trouble but we weren't really the rowdiest crowd! I begged the girls that I didn't want the condom veil/tiara job but we were told anyway that hen nights had been banned from Dublin (we still saw groups of hens around the place). We were a small crowd of 8 and told the hotel that we were on a shopping trip. Had a lovely meal, loads of champagne/wine, had long girly chats, rides on horse and carriages which took us around some pubs and then an open bus tour and some shopping the following day. We wanted somewhere quite close to home and as we live quite near the ferry port in Holyhead it was very cheap to sail over to Ireland. Ryan air do cheap flights (I'd rather fly any day, particularly in February!).
Dublin is a bit of a cliche and people think of it as being a bit tacky to go there for hen/stag nights but I still had a brilliant time!
Happy hen hunting!

Thank you so much for all your help, still in a bit of a dilema, but we will see, but i think i really would like to go to Dublin as i have never been before.
Fi, thanks for all your help, and i am glad you had a lovely time in Dublin, did you have any trouble when you were out there as to not being able to get into bars/clubs etc, as i did not realise they have banned hen & stag nights.
Thanks, Libby

We didnt have any trouble at all, in fact cos we were a hen party the bouncers let us into clubs and gave us passes etc for free
There were loads of police around too, and they are lovely. Got chatting to one nice young man and had my photo taken with him. I do like my men in uniform
The only thing is the men in the bars/clubs were a bit sleezy. One bloke started licking one of the girls shoulders .... some dont take no for an answer but i suppose you get that everywhere.
We didn't have any trouble at all, nor did the other hen parties we saw there. They may have more of a problem with bigger groups (we were only 8). We went to O'Donoghues (spelling?) and to other places in Temple Bar, which is one street of bars, restaurants and clubs. It has great atmosphere and street entertainment everywhere and the Irish accent ... love it!

The place we stayed at looked like a dissused pub outside, we got there and all went 'Oh My God!' We thought it was closed or something! It wasnt down a very nice street either, we didnt feel safe walking down it even in day light and alwasy got a cab to Temple Bar at night (there and back) even though it was only a 15 min walk.
The hoptel was nice on the inside though, and it was 100 quid I think for a twin room for 2 nights B&B (if I remember correctly..) It was right under a railway bridge though.
I'd go for good old Dublin every time, you could take in the local culture too, all of that Irish history, the GPO, the theatres..I'd love it.
I can imagine the blokes would be sleazy as men are on stag do's (have they been banned) and as my mother would say 'when the drink's in..the wit's out
