Well……….what can I say? It truly was the best day of our lives-so if you are ready then I shall begin!
I spent the Thursday night at the venue with my two bridesmaids-one of them gave me a ‘photo book’ from the hen do in Lake Como with a picture of each girlie and a message they each wrote-that started the tears-it was so lovely-
Anyway-after sleeping through the night (like a baby!) I woke up at 6.30am and ended up waking the other two and we chatted till 8, ready to get on our way to the hairdresser and make up artist-WOW what a job they did- 3 hrs later I looked totally different……..transformed!
We headed back to the venue dodging Pete and the guests arriving to check into their rooms! ARGHHH still, managed to hide in our room on the top floor it had an amazing view where I could see the guests arriving-oh no-that set me off again-so had to shut the curtains!
Pete had given a card to my BM for me which was beautiful-again more tears! OH NO……How was I going to get through the day?
Anyway-suddenly it was 3pm and time to get on my dress-it felt so exciting-I couldn’t believe it was finally here!
A few shots from the photographer and video man and off I walked-across the gravel to the ceremony room…..I saw one our very good friends who was an usher, waiting for me-and he just looked and me, tears in his eyes and gave me a kiss-ARGHH-I started to well up again, bless him.
Time to meet the lovely Registrar which seemed to really settle me-Time to go, on Dad’s arm, we started to walk down the aisle- I found it hard to look up at everyone, I just focused on Pete at the end-where he looked gorgeous, smiling waiting for me-
I just remember him going ‘but you are wearing a veil-I didn’t know you were wearing a veil!’ it shocked him for some reason! He told me later he had to turn away when he saw me at the end of the aisle as he started to cry-bless!
We both managed to say our vows with no tears which I was SO proud about! After all the tears earlier in the day I really didn’t want to loose it if you know what I mean but it was fine, the service went so well, and everyone loved our personal vows that we had written…..
So…….off for champers and photos which took ages! Well, about 50 mins which I wasn’t expecting, but still I guess he had to do that-we didn’t realise he was going to do so many formal shots but it was fine….
Then-we all headed to the Dining Hall for the meal and this is where the one and only disaster happened-the wedding co-ordinator came over to us as we were walking in and said to us ‘Is there a theme to the wedding cake?’ We were a bit confused, but that turned to fury when we saw our beautiful Croqembouche cake leaning on a 45’ angle-no way could we serve it-it looked stupid-Then my mum bless her said-its ok, its ok……I just said NO MUM its not! As I turned around I saw her pull out this incredible Danish Wedding cake which she had made from scratch for us (as I am half Danish) It was amazing-talk about save the day! A total surprise-aren’t mum’s fab!
Anyway-dinner was lovely-we hardly ate a thing but chatted to lots of people, then it was speeches time…….They were all brilliant-I even surprised a few people as I said a few words-which I hadn’t planned but it seemed right to do so. As there were 4 birthdays on our wedding weekend I had organised mini birthday cakes with candles for them and handed them out. They were all really surprised so that was cool!
Then of course-it was time for the ‘Big Surprise’ We all went outside and the Didgeridoo man was ready, standing on the grass surrounded by candles playing his stuff and everyone was blown away especially Pete! It was brilliant- he plays with Rolf Harris and travels the world and is incredible-he explained about Pete’s proposal at Ayers Rock, hence the relevance, and then after about 30 mins he let people have a go-everyone loved it. The sparklers tied to the balloons was a lovely touch too, but they didn’t all work…..still the effect was there! Lots of the evening guests arrived at this time which was fantastic as we all stood outside watching the sun go down in the beautiful grounds.
By this time it was 9pm and time to go and dance-our band was excellent-very funky and got everyone up dancing-our first dance to ‘You’re too good to be true’ went ok too!
I can’t believe how quickly the day went-I know everyone says it but it REALLY does fly-suddenly it was 11.45pm, the band started playing ‘The Conga’ and I led it-maddness-100 or so people behind me trailing around the room singing ‘Lalala Conga!’ Hahahah excellent…….
Anyway, we got into our cab to our stunning hotel-where Pete had organised yet more champagne, some beautiful pink roses and we gave each other our pressies-he loved his black and white photograph of Downing and he gave me a fab necklace from Tiffany’s-lucky lady! I certainly felt like it-I had the best day of my life, I had married the man of my dreams! Perfect…………..
