Default To video or not to video

Well we truly getting into this wedding planning malarky now. The next thing to we think is too find a photographer. We're both off next week so are going to see our venue again and pay the deposit and we going to hunt for a photographer. I've rung round a few and have arranged to go and see them next week.

Some of them do a package where they will video the day as well. We have been trying to decide whether or not we want it done. I think it would be lovey and so does Paul but its a lot of money that could be spent on something else. The cheapest I've found is £600 but that is just for the ceremony and a couple of hours at the reception. The one I want is well over a grand but they start with the arriving at the venue and do the whole day. For another £30 they will stay till midnight so get the whole day.

We thought we could ask some friends with video camera's to do the honours but it won't be the same. To be honest the ones I have seen like this have been rubbish.

So did you video your wedding? If so did you have it done professionally and was it worth the money you spent.

I had mine videoed (and also put onto DVD) and it was fantastic! I feel that it really captured the day

My BIL and his wife used the same guy back in August, and are so pleased with theirs that they are now saying that because of all the piccies the guests have given them, they are glad they didn't spend a fortune on the photographer and splashed out on the video!

I would say definately do it, coz I want my kids to be able to see what we were like when we were younger

HTH,
Lo xxx

Try County Video their work is excellent and they are very competitively priced - nationwide service.

Good luck.

We didnt have one done, but sort of wish we had now. My MIL filmed the ceremony and speeches for us which will be great to look back on in the future. Her filming was funny and I think we enjoyed it more because it wasn't professional.

If we could do it again, I think maybe I'd look into getting one..

Hello!

We were in the exactly same predicament as you Teresa, shall we, shan't we!

Anyway, we did, and I have to admit, we have both said that is the best decision we made relating to the wedding, ( well apart from choosing each other!!!)

I think it's worth every penny, because you feel as if you are actually reliving the day.

I say GO FOR IT

We didn't have one done, and in hindsight it would have been nice. I've seen some footage my sister took and there are bits and pieces from the service and the start of the speeches but it cuts off during the first one which is a shame. Its a bit of a toss-up between asking a family member to do it, which limits their enjoyment of the day, and paying a large amount for a professional to do it. If we did it again, we may have thought more about a video I think.

We didn't pay to have it done, although one of my cousins came armed with a video camera - we've just been given a copy of their tape... I don't really like having my photo taken, and I think with a videographer hanging around I would have been a bit uncomfortable - but I can totally understand why people want it and love it when it's done... I'm just not sure I'd want to watch myself on it, it would make me squirm! If you're the kind of person who's happy in front of a camera, I'd say go for it - there will be one day (probably a couple of decades down the line, or maybe the week after honeymoon!) when you'll really treasure it, and will have forgotten whatever it cost - friend or pro.
Anyway, I should go and find the video player (packed away somewhere for the purposes of continual DIY...) so we can have a good chuckle at ourselves!

Well....

We had one done and I am so glad! We actually haven't seen it yet (we get it tomorrow) but I am so excited to see it-more than the photos actually-
There is so much you miss from the day when you fly around so it will be nice to catch the bits we missed.

Other married friends say its the best investment and as its a lot of money to spend-if it was a choice between photos and vid go for the vid BECAUSE you can get photos from stills on the video and hundreds of people will take photos too so you can do both.

I can't comment on that but its a good point-when we watch ours tomorrow night I will let you know!

By the by-I have had a video of the skydive I did from 10000 feet and every single time I watch it its like being back there-feeling everything I felt at the time (and it was 2 years ago) so my long winded point is I am hoping the wedding video will bring us back to the feelings everytime we watch it!

PHEW!!!

Wel.....you asked

I am so glad you started this post Teresa, as it has prompted me to think about having one done too!!

Originally i said there was no way i would have someone videoing us, as it would make me feel really uncomfortable, but we watched a close friends wedding video a couple of weeks ago, and it was so nice to see the day, and watch the funny bits that we have decided to book someone, so fingers crossed we will have it all confirmed this week.

Thanks again,

Libby

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and ideas.

We are still undecided though. In one way it would be lovely to have it done so we have that a lovely reminder of the day. But we have also both said that it might make us feel uncomfortable on the day and that we don't want that. Neither of us especially like having our photos taken so a video is even worse.

Decisions, Decisions, hopefully we'll make one soon.

This was the main reason why we were thinking about not wanting a videographer, because we don't like being the centre of attention (bit hard when it's your wedding day I know),
but normally the proper videographer's stay out of your way.

We hardly noticed ours until the evening, when he was getting everyone dancing on the dance floor!!

Especially the groovy girls!!!

I deffo want a video...does anyone know a price range for how much they are? I looked on the links on Groovy and the wedding video company were about £1000 which I thought was a bit steep!

Well we've decided that we would like to have a video so now the search is on to find one. I've rung round a few and got demo ones but I think that £800 - £1000 is a bit much really really.

Have just been speaking to my mum who reminded me that a friend of hers is in the camera club and a fab photographer so we are going to see her next week to see if she can do weddings. She's had stuff published and at the moment has stuff displayed in the town hall. Not sure if she's ever done a wedding though. I'm going to ask her if she knows anyone that can do videos as we really can't afford too much but would love to have one.

Will try and speak to her next week so fingers crossed she's good.

I'm going to ask around as I think my friend has a friend who did photography and media at Uni. H2B has informed me as well today that his mate at work has access to a ferrari and our other friend has an E type Jag so thats our wedding cars sorted for the price of a bottle of spirits Hurrah!

We didn't have an official video, but my uncle had his camera with him which meant we got some of it caught on video!
I love watching it, and sometimes when I watch it I wish we'd had it done proffesionally BUT I like the fact it wasn't intrusive on the day!

teresa I've been doing my research on this (yes work is quiet) and have found that around 800 looks like a good deal. I think you can tell a lot about the 'style' of the website and the photo samples on there. I'm going to talk to a lot of the photgraphers as I would want things digitally and then H2B can do all the touching up etc as that's his job, no point in paying someone else right? Also, I think 35 quid extra for a DVD is a total rip off as they are about 3 pounds to buy. Anyways

I've sent off for demo's too, hope they are good ones

Rooley

- I've found what seems to be a fantastic video guy in Coventry.

Not sure where you are, but if you want details let me know. The package price is £650. The demo he has in his studio is really good - not tacky at all. He attends the rehearsal too. Bad thing is that DVDs are £90, but he thought that was going to come down.

Thumbs up

Ooops - I forgot to add, the deposit is just £30 and you pay the rest when you get the finished product. (So I think he's pretty confident that he's good.)
