Default Question to those of you who will be living with parents after your married...

What are you doing about your gift list? We don't have any homey stuff, and when we do move into our own place (whenever that might be  ) we will be starting from scratch. However my parents home is tiny and could not keep two of everything. What's the best thing to do? It would be nice to get actual gifts rather than a stack of vouchers (I don't mean that to sound snotty and horrible, but it's always nicer to get a pressie ). I suppose we could split the list - there are certain things we could use in the bedroom, linen and what have you, but the kitchen stuff could wait until a later date. How long would we expect to be able to use vouchers from somewhere like Debenhams? Oh I don't know, losing the plot I think...

It's actually a good idea Dawnie, alas I am the oldest (and apparently most mature ) of my mates, and despite them all being in their mid to late 20's they live with their mums and dads too! I have one friend with her own place, but she has two kids and loads of stuff so I'm pretty sure she wouldn't have any spare room.

We may be able to squeeze a few bit's in here and their, and I'm planning on having a clear out when I get back so may be able to make a cupboard free. We do have a brick shed in the garden, but it's not insulated (or secure) so it probably wouldn't be wise to put anything in there. Oh well, we'll have lots of teeny things on our list.

Bev

I feel your pain girlfriend!!! I too will be moving in with my parents after we are married, and I have just found out that my sister, who thought she would be moving out, won't be!!!

She took my old room when I moved out and it is the biggest one. When she was moving out, we were going to store alot of our furniture in there and have it as a kind of living room for us, but now we can't!!!

We have accumulated a lot of things over the last two years, and it was going to be a struggle to store things as it is. Now, I just don't know what we are going to do. Too much stuff and not enough room!

As a result, we have put fairly small things on our gift list. However, we have asked for vouchers in the main as we can then buy bigger items once we have our own place.

Not much help for you, but just to let you know you are not alone!

Love Jessx

not really in a similar situation Bev, but I do know where your coming from here!! We will be moving into army married quarters, where almost everything CAN be provided for you. We are getting the list within the next couple of months to check off what it is we want in the quarters. We are asking for gift vouchers, for Tesco's and Argos. I would much rather have the pressies, but I have to pay for my own move to Northern Ireland, and it seems silly to pay for it all to be transported out there, only to move back here within 9 months!!
