Red face The Dreaded Wedding List

We are in a bit of a predicament as we have just about EVERYTHING we need as we've lived together for thirteen years, so the only thing we really want is a hand-made cabinet for the beautiful dinner service I've just bought and my old 45s and LPs, and some "real" paintings.

All of our friends (the ones we've asked, anyway) are pretty OK with giving money, though I'm not sure how the old folk will take this.

Do you think it will be too awful to ask for money, and if not, how should I do it?

Should I mention this in the wedding list information we are sending with the invites, or should say "for details of wedding list phone Mummy" and let her tell the relatives?

Any thoughts (no matter how bad) will be appreciated.

We have lived together for about 7 years, so didnt think there was really anything we needed, but actually once we started thinking about it , we just decided to replace all the unmatching things we have!!

So hopefully we might end up with things like a decent set of matching towels for a change, also things like an expensive duvet set which we wouldnt normally spend on ourselves!

So we have a list with House of Fraser, but have also said we would be equally happy with M&S vouchers or America Dollars (to spend on the honeymoon!)

I just think if you dont have a list & the oldies will want to give you a present (not money!) you might up with 5 toasters & 3 kettles!

Hope this has helped! Hope to hear your decision!

We're just going to ask for money too.
I was flabbergasted when my il2b told me that wasn't really the done thing here and why would we want to do that?!?!
In The Netherlands everyone asks for money for their wedding, seeing most people these days are already living together or even have their own homes.

I think you should definitely go for it, and if the argument against asking for money is that then you'll know how much money they've spend on you... well, you would if they got you something from the wedding list too!!!

I'm not sure how to ask for it though. As I consider it quite rude to send a wedding list with the invites we're just going to let people call our parents so they can tell them we would like to receive money rather than gifts.

weve asked for either money or B&Q Vouchers as we want to have a new Kitchen and Bathroom so at least it will all go towards that,so far so good and people are ok with it even the oldies are ok which is surprising as they usually like to buy a pressie !! but if anyone wanted to buy a gift im sure we could think of some things for the house.

Dear girlies,

Thanks for taking the time to help me with my problem.

I've decided to pass the buck, so to speak, and will put a message in with the wedding invitation saying "for details of our weddling list, please call Mum" and let her tell them!

I may also say "look at our web site" (which we haven't done yet) and mention what we want the cash for!
