I'm in a bit of a pickle. I need to change my passport into my new name in time for the honeymoon.

The only problem is that I was born in the bahamas and its bloody difficult to get hold of a passport without loads of documents. e.g. birth certificate, father's birth certificate etc.

We moved house a while ago and I cannot find my birth certificate anywhere!! It took one year!!!!!!!!!!!!! for the registrar in the Bahamas to send it to me last time.

The main problem is that I'm petrified of letting go of my passport because if it gets lost in the post or anything I can't get a replacement without waiting for ever!

Does anyone know if there is a way you I can hand over and collect my passport in person. Or can they be done there and then if i go to the passport office. There is absolutely no way I'm going to post it or have the new one posted to me.

Please help cos I'm having a mini-crisis!

Can;t you go to the Passport Office in London?

Also most post office now, do special deliveries for passports, you have to pay for the service, about £5 I think.

Other than that, now sure!

Have a look on their website, (can't remember what it is tho!)

You can get a passport in person, and I ber you can do it in London.

nessa is right. The post office will check your application for you, and let you know if there are any mistakes. They also guarantee to get it back to you within ten days! They then accept full responsibility for it! I think it costs £3.50!

It might be worth applying for a new birth certificate anyway, cos you never know when you night need it! (especially if it takes a year to come through! )
