My friend is getting married on 3rd July this year - or rather was. This morning her hotel decded to let her know they are not closing in October as they originally told her instead they are closing next month! The new owners are knocking the place straight down to build flats and so the hotel have passed all their bookings on to another hotel in the area which is a very nice hotel but they can't honour the dates! She has her photographer and everything booked for July and her stationary arrived just last month! The only date the new hotel can give is October! Obviously she's devastated by it and is frantiucally trying to find another hotel in the area that just might have something on 3rd July. The main problem is she lives in London and she's getting married in Ayr in Scotland and so is having to rely on web searches to come up with places and then if she does get somewhere has to hope she'll like it once she gets to see it.
Does anyone live anywhere near Ayr or know of anywhere that might be able to help?
Luckily she's got insurance but it's no compensation for all the upset.
mg: What a terrible thing to happen, I can't even begin to imagine how your friend must be feelin
Soz can't be of any help on the Ayr front but sending lots of positivity...

Thanks for the positive vibes. I think she's sorted out now. She rang the hotel that had cancelled on her and told them the hotel they'd passed all bookings onto couldn't do her date so they negotiated with a different hotel and got a 4 star hotel to agree to her date at no extra cost. The only trouble with that was they already had a wedding that day so all their rooms were booked. She had 19 rooms booked for people and so wanted to still have rooms. Anyway after a lot of talking with her boyfriend and then them both remembering the October hotel was where he had his graduation ball they've decided to go for October. Luckily her photographer is free that day, they have got exclusive use of the hotel (complete with its own golf course and deer park) and the insurance is paying for all the stationary to be redone. The hotel that let her down couldn't believe when she rang and asked what compensation they were offering!
Thanks to Paula and Stace too for your offers of help.
I think she would in entitled to compenstaion alright. When a business is sold I think there is some legal obligation for the new owners to honour any bookings made - either by keeping everthing the way it was (ie same hotel same date, etc) or by providing an equal if not better (if a suitable comparible is not available) alternative. She has been messed about with her dates etc. she should definatly get some kind of discount! The only thing is I hope she has not said to the hotel that she is now satisfied with the new arrangments!!! Get her to have a chat with her lawyer or the CAB to be sure on this!
