Tacky or kitsch? We have to make some decisions quite quickly - we're not planning on letting people squawk away for hours. We thought we wuld have a couple of half hour sessions just to keep the evening a bit more lively than a 4 hour disco. Any thoughts? :gasm:
As long as you can stop it and people don't sing for hours and hours then go for it. I know I couldn't as my mum would be addicted to it and we wouldn't be able to get her off. We'd have to
I know this is sad but the main reason we thought about having it is that one of my friends (a big ginger Welsh geeza called Dai) does a fantastic rendition of Ice Ice Baby - everytime we've been to a karoke he's done it and it's fab! Also my mum is Irish and some of her sisters do like to sing. But we reckon doing two half hour sessions is more than enough to keep people amused.
My sister had karaoke at her wedding in 94 and I have to say it was fantastic especially if everyone has had a drink or two.
When I told people who didn't go that she'd had it they were a bit scathing but if they had been there they would have loved it too.
I say go for it!
Mia
I know what you mean Mia - we've had a few raised eyebrows, and I do understand why. But anything that can liven up the evening and give people a laugh is good by me. I've emailed the venue for help (feel so guilty as they had already found me a DJ - the poor woman who runs it is going to be so pleased when she doesn't have to deal with us anymore ) so I'll let you all know if they find anyone for us!
I think that its a fab idea Bev! I think you should prime a few people before hand though to make sure that you will have at least a few people betting up, and then will hopefully start a trend, otherwise people might not want to make an a**e of themselves (which invariably people always do when they have had a few beers and start to croon a tune!)
Go for it though! As you say, you can always cut it short if it doesnt go down too well!
I am always up for a bit of karaoke though, although i know that I am absolutley appalling and every time i vow that i will never do it again!
LOL

Great idea Bev. We really wanted to do that too - however sadly couldn't get it set up in our venue. Think it will be loads of fun - just make sure everyone has had a few drinks before it gets going - once the first person has done it, everyone will want a go!

I think its a cool idea, but whenever I've been in a place when Karaoke is going on, there always seems to come a point where it tails off, so a few short bursts would be a good idea.
