Default Evening Buffet - Bacon Butties. But what else?

Hi there,

You were all so helpful last time i thought you might come up with some good ideas.

I dont want a normal buffet of chicekn legs, vol-au-vants, sausage rools etc and have opted for bacon butties. However, I know that is not enough and i also need to provide for vegetarians. Anyone got any ideas what else we can have. I dont really want chips/wedges or tortiallas but struggling to come up with anything else.

All ideas welcomed thanks

I really really wanted Bacon Butties too as I them sooo much, in fact I even get called Piggy Lady because I adore bacon-anyway-sorry-getting side-tracked there, we didn't have them because they were going to charge us

£5 PER SARNIE!!!

So we opted out of that-does your venue do them?

What about doing hot-dogs too, that way you can do veggie ones too?

Mmmm tasty

Yum
You can get veggie bacon in the freezers at all the major supermarkets, or you could have veggie sausage sarnies, you gotta be careful about this though cause most carnivores are partial to a veggie sausage!

We had an Italian buffet cos our venue had an Itlaian restaurant attached. That included pizza, pasta dishes, etc plus staple things like Chilli and rice and nibbles. Then we had "posh" jelly and ice cream for pudding.

Things to go with bacon butties - erm ......... <ponders> the pasta idea and chilli could be good (and cheap). All this would be filling so you wouldn't need all the expensive bits like dips, wedges, etc. Big plate of chips would be good.

I'm waffling now, but HTH

well, our venue is a set fee of £12.50 per head for the evening buffet and when i said i only wanted bacon butties she said "well, its still £12.50 Most expensive bacon sarnie I will ever eat.

Hence, why i want to add more things and get my monies worth

WE also HAVE to pay for 100% of the guests int he evening when most places only charge you for 75% cos it never all gets eaten. Rip off merchants.

Like the idea of chilli !! My mum HATES the bacon sarnies idea and would much prefer crusty old cheese sarnies

I love the idea of bacon butties. I think chips or wedges would be good to go with them though. Also pizza slices and pasta or rice salad might be nice too. You could do veggie hotdogs too. Some big bowls of salad and maybe a few nibbly bits like crisps etc as not everyone will want loads to eat especially those that have been there all day and eaten already.

Ooo yeah Teresa, pizza slices are a top idea.

BC, I know what you mean about the venue taking the p****. Ours wanted to charge £70+VAT for a tray of 36 pieces. So we though stuff it and are having no buffet!!!

Would your venue put on something like

a platter of all diff cheeses, a whole brie, half a stilton all arranged beautifully with grapes and exotic fruit

then different pates, including vegetarian ones

then assorted breads, foccacia and ciabatta as well as good old french stick and nibblets

then you could have some blinis with smoked salmon and cream cheese? or those little devils on horseback things which are essentially cocktail sausages wrapped in something posh and then wrapped in bacon

then a massive bowl of rice salad, one of pasta salad and a green salad too

I'd LOVE to see all that wheeled out if i was at your wedding, all goes nicely with a glass of wine and a bacon butty

I went to a wedding where we had hot bacon rolls in the evening, but I can't for the life of me remember what else was served - I was too busy at the other end of the table! Rooley's menu suggestion sounds very appetising though.
