Default Calligraphy pens

I've bought a book to try and teach myself calligraphy as I want to use it on the invitations and stuff. I think it looks really nice.

Does anywhere know of any good places that sell calligraphy pens. I've looked in smiths and they didn't have anything. Would try either a shop or online.

Also can anyone else do calligraphy and is it really hard to learn. Just wondering if I'm wasting my time trying to learn this.

I've never done it as I can jsut about write normally, but I know you can get the pens in art shops. I'm sure our local college runs a satruday course for about £15 on how to do it as well.

It's a lovely skill to have...well done to you for being inventive x Then you can hire yourself out in the future to write other peoples invitations for them too

My mum does this and I think she gets her pens from Debenhams. Theres also that new book in the Newsagents but not sure what its like - may be worth a look and might have special offers on pens and inks.

I know this sounds naff but there is an advert on telly at the moment

'At Newsagents now only 99p for the first issue'

Basically a mag to help you learn and free pens I think-I know it won't be great but maybe a start?

The other issues each week get more expensive

Do I make sense?!

I've saw that magazine thing on TV too ~ it's got to be worth a look-see at only 99p...

Good luck to you though!

Let us know how you get on .....

Thanks. I'll have a look for that magazine and try hobbycraft too.

Was looking at the book I've got over the weekend and it does look quite hard so I'll give it go but might give up on the idea if I don't get the hang of it quite quickly.

Don't bother with the 99p thing. Even at that price it's a complete waste of money! The nib either falls out (splodging ink everywhere) or goes in too far, making it really wobbly (and splodging ink everywhere!). I've got a great book called Wedding Invitations, Announcements, Place Cards and more, A Bride's Guide to Calligraphy (nice concise title!), which is great. Can't help on the best pen though... still looking for that myself!

I got a set for xmas years ago and never really got into it but my mum learnt and did some nice decorative stuff on my coursework at school!

I believe it came from Woolworths and i've seen something similar recently. it looks like a big square book but half is the writing and instructions etc and in the other half is like a capsule with pens/nibs and inks etc

i know i made no sense. will go search the net.
