Unhappy Our venue is a building site!

Hi all

We've just got back from a wedding fayre at our reception venue... and it's become a building site!

When we booked we knew they were extending it, but we were told it would absolutely be completed by December (2003!), but now their brochures say part of it will be completed by end of August and the rest won't be ready til end of September. Our wedding's mid-July...

I'm really disappointed. I fell in love with the beautiful winding road you had to drive down to get to the hotel - now it's blocked off and filled with building materials.

I don't know what to do. It took us ages to find the venue of our dreams, and now it seems to have gone pear-shaped. Inside it's still just as wonderful, but we wanted nice grounds, etc, etc.

What do you think we should do?

Have you asked them what the schedule is - what will they be doing by July?

Have you put down your deposit etc? Or do you have wedding insurance?

Only you can know whether or not you want to go ahead with it at that hotel, but more questions need answering first.

Oh dear

My thoughts really are with you!!!

Like Karen has suggested, I'd speak to them and ask what the building should look like by July. I'd also tell them how disappointed you are in them. You really should have been warned that their building plans might have been extended.

If it really is going to spoil the grounds etc for you with regards to photo's, maybe you should consider looking for another venue.

If the building work is only going to be very minor come July, I am sure you would hardly notice.. but it depends really how it will look.

My thoughts are with you, such an awful situation to be in.

Hugs Karen - xx

Oh god I'd be sick as a pig!

Like the others say ask them what things will be like in July. It could be that by July it'll just be minor stuff that needs finishing and it won't affect you at all. I'd make an appointment to go see them armed with questions and see what they can tell you.

Hope it'll be ok

What a shame. Poor you.

I'd ask them what they will be doing in July and whether it will almost be finished or not. Find out about the grounds too as you don't want your guests having to do an obstacle course over building materials to get to the door.

Only you know if you still want to go ahead. Have you paid a deposit or signed anything? Go and have a good talk with them and if they say its going to be finished in time then get it in writing.

Also July isn't that far off and you could have trouble finding another venue for that date as they get booked up quite quickly.

We've paid a deposit - £850! So can't really afford to lose that. We've got insurance though - hadn't thought about that. I've tried calling the hotel but the wedding co-ordinator only works three days a week. I'll get on to her tomorrow.

Thanks for all your support!

Good luck with it

At the end of the day it seems they can't live up to their side of the agreement so you should be ok....and with insurance you will be fine.

Fingers crossed for you
