What kind of underwear should I have under dress
I'm trying to decide what underwear to get to go under my dress. Not in a big hurry to get it yet but am trying to get some ideas. The bodice on my dress is already boned and I have no idea what is the best type of underwear to go with it. I'm going to ask my dress shop when I go in at the beginning of June for my first fitting if they have any ideas. I wasn't sure if I should just go for a strapless bra althought I quite like the idea of something a bit like these.
I've seen some lovely corsets by Rigby and Peller, they are gorgeous but a bit pricey. I might get one though.
Wondered if anyone can offer any advice on the best style/type of underwear to go for under my dress. I want to be comfortable all day and I wondered what those of you that have had their wedding day, wore under their dress.
Sorry don't mean to be nose but I'm just after some ideas.
Ta very much.

The corset on my dress is boned too and gives enough support so I am not going to wear anything under it (also, its a Maggie dress so the detail at the back would show any bras etc)
Im going to splash out on some nice underwear for the night time and honeymoon! Really love that 2nd set.
Hope you find something you like

I had a corset style top on my dress, and didn't need to wear any "upper" underwear with it... I did buy something similar to the ones you're looking at but when I tried it on with the dress the bodice on my dress was shorter than the "basque", which then showed underneath at the skirt part..... the assistant suggested I try the "no underwear" and it was perfect......
I however wear a big pair of "Nancy Ganz" slimming knikers to hide my lumps & bumps, but if I'd not needed them I would have opted to go for some gorgeous undies.........
H
PS Matt liked the thought of the "no underwear"

My corset top was boned, I'd tried a strapless bra & you could see it.
I felt tied up enough, I think wearing another basque type thingy would have been uncomfortable.
I had never gone without a bra in my life until my wedding day :teehee:

My bodice was boned too, so in the end instead of wearing a bra i bought these satin cups just to give me a little bit of lift (small boobies!!) they were great, and i bought them from the shop i got my dress from.
They were the same idea as the chicken fillets but i was not wearing a bra so i could not have those.

Teresa, one thing you need to bear in mind is your size... if you're a well-endowed girl, you may need a little support inside your dress whereas is you're smaller/average, you can probably get away without anything.
My dress was boned etc but I'm quite a large girl and needed to feel secure instead of everywhere when I was the night away.

I refused point blank to even consider anything boned - gorgeous though they looked. I know from past experience as a <ahem> generously endowed woman that by the end of an evening wearing a basque that I had bruises at the bottom of my ribs/top of my hips area.
I went for an all in one body that did some good in smoothing everything and holding me in, but which was comfy.
Ask your dress shop what they would recommend?

bloody uncomfy those basque/corsets you know!! My dress wasn't overly boned but my basque a) didn't look right with the dress and b) was so bloody uncomfortable!!!!

They are so stunning-I love them!
My sexy wedding underwear contained a flesh colour, seamless g string and two of those horrid plaster like daisies you stick on your nipples........so they didn't show through the dress!
What a damned hussy I am

Hi Teresa
My bodice is also boned so I bought a strapless bra thinking it would be okay but at my fitting last month the dressmaker said that it made my boobs look awful!! So she went upstairs and got me a bustier which I ended up buying as it looked much better. I would suggest going to your shop and asking the professionals. I wish I did - would have saved me £30!
Good luck xx

Thanks everyone. I will definately ask in my dress shop before I buy anything. Don't want to be uncomfortable but would like to wear something nice underneath.

My dress was strapless and boned, but not corseted, and being another of the well-endowed ladies, I needed a strapless bra, which was also boned and rather huge! However, it did wonders for my bust, giving it the right amount of lift so I didn't lose my waist!
All this advice was given by the woman in my dress shop, so I would second everyone's advice to try there first, and preferably before your first fitting as they like you to have the undies you will be wearing on the day when they make the adjustments.

Hi there
Now, I've flipped straight down to reply without reading so sorry if I say the same as others, or indeed contradict them........
My dress was a boned and corsetted top one and I bought a lovely corset to go underneath it - but the two corsets together made the dress go mad and attempt to flip itself over my head, not a pretty sight........ in the end I bought a very ordinaryl red bra (strapless) pants and sussy belt set and wore that, and it didn't interfe with the dress at all!
