Default can i pick up flowers the day before?

I'm only in the (very) early stages of planning - but chances are I will be getting married quite a way from home, and travelling down the day before.

Would it be an option to get florist local to home to do my flowers, collect them the day before and take them with me?
How long do things like the bouquet and buttonholes stay perky for?

I read that if you do them yourself you can keep them overnight in the fridge - as long as you don't have them near fruit. But as I will be at a hotel that could be difficult.

I could get a florist near to the venue, but what with not being local I wondered if this might be a bit of a hassle?

Anyone got any experience they can offer?

Thanks
Rachel

Well, we had the florist deliver flowers to the venue and set them up, but we only had a few things and they were silk anyway. Mind yu, they did forget about my mum's bouqet so that cunning plan wasn't foolproof.

My personal opinion would be to get a place local to where you're getting married to to do the flowers and deliver them to the venue if they are fresh. If you want to liaise with a place near to where you live (the better option), why not go for silks so you've no worries about them lasting?

Aha! I have considered this option too! Do they look realistic? Honest do they?

Somehow it feels sort of cheating ...

Rachel you can get some really nice silk flowers and they look lovely.

We are having silk flowers to decorate the reception venue. Pauls mum is doing them for us as she into that kind of thing and its giving her something to do and stopping her from hassling me!!! We went to a wholesaler place the other week and got loads and loads to decorate the venue. We're having table decs, a display on the top table and 2 pedastals I think and its cost £50 for the lot.

They look lovely too. I really wanted fresh flowers for my bouquet though and am getting married away from where I live so in the same situation as you. I've found a florist there who is going to deliver them on the morning of the wedding. I'm lucky as I'm getting married where my parents live so go and visit regularly to get things sorted out.

You can get some really good silk flowers and they do look realistic. If you really want real flowers though, I think I'd be inclined to get them where you are getting married as they will be fresh. You could ask the hotel if they can recommend anywhere.

They look great, plus you can keep them after. We've still got out standing arrangement in our house a year and a half after the wedding, still looks great. Plus, you can get them rearranged to suit your house if you like.

This picture should show our landing with the arrangement ....

Oooh! Thats lovely!!!!

I think silk flowers do look real, but I think it depends on who you use to do them. Why not check out some peoples work in your area?

There is no harm......

Thanks. I think I will have a look again at silk flowers, and if I decide on real ones then somehow get a florist local to the wedding venue (wherever that might be! )

Thanks for the advice.
