We had :

Colossians 3.12 - 17 (read by K's friend Don)

As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him

Philippians 4.4 – 9 (read by another friend, Sara)

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.

We had 1 Corinthians 13 - and our Vicar read it! Saved having to ask friends or family who we know are quite shy

Here's a list of some other reading's our Vicar suggested to us, although I always came back to Corinthians

Genesis 2:18-25
This early story tells of our human need to share life with other people

John 2:1-11
This is an account of how Jesus went with his mother and friends to a wedding and gave some miraculous assistance when all the wine had been drunk before the end of the feast.

Matthew 7:21, 24-27
Jesus tells a story about two men who built their homes in different places on different foundations to show how important the right foundation isfor our lives.

Mark 10:6-9
Marriages broke down and men easily divorced their wives in Jesus' time. Jesus reminds people of God's intention that every marriage should become an unbreakable bond.

John 15:9-12
Jesus tells his disciples about love and the need for us to love one another

Romans 12:1-2, 9-13
St. Paul describes how love changes us an helps us in the practical things of daily life

1 John 4:7-12
St. John shows that God is love, and that because of God's love for us we should love one another

Genesis 1:26-28, 31
The story of how God created men and women and instituted marriage.

HTH,
Lo xxx

We need to decide on this too. Thanks for the ideas everyone.

I think we are going to ask my sister to do a reading as she doesn't mind public speaking.

I think in the Catholic service there are about five to choose from, so we won't get much choice really! I don't mind though, they are all about love so that's good. I love the reading from Captain Corelli, if I can have that I will but I'm not sure if I'd be able to x

How did the meeting with the vicar go?

When you fall in love it is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then it subsides and when it subsides you have to make a decision, you have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part, because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the desire to mate every second of the day, it is not lying awake at night imagining he is kissing every part of your body. No, don’t blush, I am telling you some truths. This is just ‘being in love,’ which any of us can convince ourselves we are in. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away. It doesn’t sound very exciting does it? But it is. Dr. Lannis, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin

we had

Song of Songs chap 8
6 Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm; for love is strong as death, jealousy is cruel as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, a most vehement flame. 7 Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it. If a man offered for love all the wealth of his house, it would be utterly scorned.

or a version of that anyway

we also had us two by AA Milne and Pippas Song by Robert Browning

Another one I toyed with was Dickens
"I'll tell you what real love is. It is blind devotion, unquestioning self-humiliation, utter submission, trust and belief against yourself and against the whole world, giving up your whole heart soul to the smiter- as I did!"
"Great Expectations"
