Default Reception question.....

I should know this after all the mags I have read but after reading Springbrides thread about walking in to Green Onions I was wondering what you are supposed to do? I thought that we would get to the reception before everyone else and have a sort of "recieving line"..or do you wait till everyone is here and walk in? Thanks confused!

Hi Mazz,

We didn't have a receiving line but even if you do - guests usually go in first, look at the table plan and take their seats at their respective tables. Once everyone is seated the toastmaster or similar announces the bride and groom. This has happened at a majority of the weddings I have been to. Although, most have not had music played - we are just really into our music and it was apt for us.

I hope this helps?

Thank you!...the thing is we are not having a seating plan because we are having an "informal" buffet (for 160!!) we are letting people sit where they like (dont know if this is good or bad!) and having some music playing in background intil Disco starts at 7.00pm!

At church followed by the reception at a Golf Club. We are having quite a late wedding at 3.00 (tho' Vicar always late even by own admission) so reception prob start at 5.00 ish therefore we are only having a buffet...with 160 people I would need to win lotto to have a sit down too!!

Depends if you want to make an entrance or not. We have been advised by our venue that everyone will get there and stand around chatting for half an hour having their welcome drink. Then they will go into the reception room and sit down. The hotel manager is acting as MC and said he can introduce us. I think we are going to do this.

You could let everyone go into the room and then get someone to introduce you. A recieving line for 160 will take a while too.

We waited & chatted to the venue girl until everyone was sat down & then she introduced us as Mr & Mrs & everyone cheered
