How did you feel in the dress Lisa? That's the most important thing here. If you felt it was right and you're bothered about covering your arms then what about a wrap?

I know your mum probably means well - but its you thats got to wear the dress. Have a look at some others and you may find something you prefer - but if you did really like it I say go for it. We all have different opinions about things but at the end of the day its you thats got to wear it.
When I found my dress I was in the shop on my own. I haven't ordered it yet but am planning to take my future MIL with me when I go to order. So far she has not really liked some of the dresses I have showed her - but I have decided that even if she doesn't like it, it is the one I want and I am going to have it.

I was a size 20 and had a dress with very thin straps and nothing to cover them. It never occurred to me to worry about fat arms! I do have much better photos than this, but it is the only one downtairs and I can't be bothered to go up and get the album!
Try on a load more, but if this is the one, you will know.

My Mum said she wasn't sure about the dress that I tried on, which I fell in love with. It was a strapless dress and I am fairly bug busted. She felt it gave me no waist! However, the lovely lady in the shop whipped me behind the curtain, produced a bra with built-in scaffolding, et voila, it looked heaps better and she loved it too! My mil even cried when she saw me in it!
So, although I was a bit disappointed that my Mum didn't like my dress at first, I still wanted it because that was the one I had fallen for, and that was the one I wore! In the end, everyone said what a lovely dress it was and no-one noticed my lack of waist!
Go with what makes you feel like a princess Lisa, and don't listen to anyone else!!

I was a size 18-20 when I got married too, and I had a dress that was off the shoulder, but had a small "sleeve" (can't think of a better way to describe it) which distracted away from my upper arms. My shoulders are one of my bestter features as I am very broad and my dress helped define that!
Here's a (not very good) pic to kinda show you what I mean

I know your mum means well, but sometimes mums arent always right petal.
If it is your dream dress, then your arms shouldnt stop you from wearing this. Also, like Ang said, its about how you feel. Dont let your mums comments deter you.

Tell me when you are approaching that number Lisa, then we can keep count!
As far as Mums go, sometimes you want to shoot them! You will find something else you like, but if this is the dress you want, then don't worry about your mums opinion.
I preferred sleeves in mine as i am conscious of my arms (another size 20 here) but I also loved the whole floaty chiffony theme too

Thats lovely and with the jacket you have the option of covering your arms or not.

I adore that first one!! Looks like the shape would be really flattering too. Make sure you don't go for anything that will make you too hot though. I'm sure you can get some sort of chiffon/silk sleeves put in. Only cover up if you want to though!

I had a wrap with my dress & you can just about see how it works in this picture. Basically the woman in the shop put it round my shoulders, then tied it in a big knot at the back of my waist. It feels slight resptrictive initially (mine was quite thick material) but it means that when you get a bit hot you can whip it off
