Default clothes for groom

H2B and I went looking at clothes for him and bestman etc this week. He wants to wear a kilt, but would rather the bestman, ushers etc wear morning suits.

Would this look odd? He feels that I am not the same as my bridesmaids and would like to stand out a bit too.

It is a choice between him in a kilt and the rest in suits or just him and the best man in kilts. The woman in the kilt hire shop said lots of ppl do it now, but everyone else i have spoken too seems to think it will look odd

what do you think?

Hi Lynne,
I don't think it would look odd for your fiance to wear a kilt and the others to be in morning suits, although it would look dead striking if he and the best man were.

My fiance and best man are both wearing kilts to the wedding, and if nothing else it will be very funny to see the best man in a kilt, as he certainly isn't used to it lol xxxxxxxxxxx

It's your day so do what you want!!

I went to a wedding recently where the step-father was the only guy in a kilt and it looked fine! I don't think it would look odd at all, go for it and keep him happy!

Default ooooh oooooh dilemna...

I can see your point and how mixed you might feel, if I was in your shoes, I htink I would really like the fact that my H2B would like to stand up from the rest of the guest... honestly I think it would be great to have him dressed differently :-)

For our wedding men will be inuniforms... and am already thinking of how to make him look different from the others (colored shirt, colored hair, LOL) but in vain am afraid...

LoL

We're not having anyone matching (Mark, his best man and my Dad will all be doing their own thing), and I don't see why anyone should have to match at all. He should wear what ever he likes.

We aren't having matching either - all doing their own thing.

I went to a wedding last year where the groom and best man wore kilts, and the others were in morning suits, and that looked great.

Dont think it will look funny - I think you H2b is right in wanting to stand out from everyone else. ANyway, there are only two peoples opinions that really matter on your wedding day - The bride and grooms!!!!!

I think it would look great. Me, the BM, the ushers and K'd dad are wearing the same, but me and BM are wearing a cravat whilst the others wear a tie.

thanks guys, i think that has settled it for him. I told him he should wear whatever makes him happy, but I think he just needed more people to say, yeah its a good idea.

Hi Lynne

I don't think it would look odd at all - our BM, ushers and both fathers are wearing blue trousers with a very pale pinstripe, blue velvet waistcoats with light blue brocade embroidery, white shirts with the pointed collars, pale blue cravats and black 3/4 length jackets.........my H2B is wearing a cream suit, white shirt with grandad collar and a single cream button, with no cravat or tie.....the woman in the shop said we couldn't have the attendants more formal than the groom, we told her that when we asked her to pay for it, we'd ask for her opinion too (sounds awful but she was a right stroppy old so and so) - me & H2B will stand out on the day, we'll both feel like a million dollars and that, at the end of the day is all that matters!

alll the men are wering similar things i have gone for a frock coat instead of tails the brides maaids will be i n a dark red'burgundy colur i am in gold so h2b will be in a gold waistcoat with a red colured cravat the other men will have a red waistcoat and a gold cravat so just reversing the colurs
I think it is nice to have the groom slightly different it is his day as much as ours but if they have strong feelings they should be able to wear what they'd like
