Default what are/were your cakes like?

Hi Guys

Just being nosey but what did you all have cakes like or planning on having them like?

Mine is 4 tiers, 2 fruit (top and bottom), 1 choc and 1 vannilla sponge - with writing arounds the sides and vases inbetween the layers - it is costing an arm and a leg (didnt realise until now that apparently its DOUBLE what is usually spent (according to magazines!)) - its £435 (inc 10% discount) - is that outrageous? To be honest its our extravagance!

Cheers - looking forward to hearing all about all of yours!

XXXXXXXXx

Sounds lovely! Do you have a picture of it?

Mine is 5 tiers, I'm having fruit spice, vanilla sponge, chocolate sponge and carrot cake. It is covered in white belgian chocolate and has swirls of roses in the pattern. I'm having pink encorporated into the chocolate to match my theme, and also I'm having pink sparkley glazed butterflies on a wire.

I guess cakes can be quite expensive really. But it depends on what you can budget for. Whatever you have on your wedding day will be the best money can buy whether it cost a tenner or a thousand quid, LOL, if that makes sense.

Sounds stunning, what does the writing say? How does it work with the vases? Are they filled?

Your cake is double what mine is costing, but on the grand scheme of things 200quid is a drop in the ocean on the whole cost!? So its a nice extravagance to have?

I'm a bit nervous about mine, its 4 tier too and is fruit on the bottom, then sponge, chocolate and lemon (I think!) and will be white with silver trim. My H2B actually stuck his neck out on this one and decided the style (it resembles something) and I would have played it safe but since he actually showed a proper interest in this one thing I had to go with it (fingers crossed).

Mine is like a pile of antique books. 3 different sizes with titles that mean stuff to us. We met in an Art Library where I worked and H2B is an Art lecturer. Bottom one fruit, middle lemon sponge, top one vanillla sponge. Ive tried to post a pic but the file is too large

We had 2 cakes that were both made by a friend of my mums and so didn't cost us much at all. We chose one of them and the other one which was a cake with a diving theme was done as a surprise by my mum. That one was a sponge cake. The other one was 3 tiers with fruit on the bottom, then chocolate and then sponge on the top. It was decorated with white choccy curls and edible flowers to match our theme.

Here's a couple of piccies...

We went for the M&S cake option! All layers were fruit and someone the caterers knew made the icing flowers for us.

My cake is from choccywoccydoodah and cost us £156! Which I think is fantastic. It is 3 tiers - biggest tier is milk chocolate, middle is white and top is dark chocolate, they have a chocolate truffle centre.

All the cakes look scrumptious, I am also thinking of the M&S cakes and then having some flowers in icing made or even having fresh flowers on. Claire, was yours bought from a shop or made by someone?

linda

mine was made by someone (a family friend who makes cakes) but I just trawled through cake mags till me and simon agreed on one we both liked.

The flowers were made out of icing aswell and the shape of the cake was like a daisy ? if that makes sense as you cant reall see it in the photo very well.
